So in case you missed it:

I have a feeling this won't be taken down by Fox, since Ryan's already linked to it on his site.

Speaking of Ryan, I thought I'd like that his show is on Z100, but I don't know, actually. I don't remember him playing this much music and talking this little on his show in LA, and half the songs they play are weirdly old—I mean, "This Love"? Really? Come on, Clear Channel! I actually want to hear reasonably new pop music from Z100, not stuff that's already played out on HotAC. Meanwhile, I don't think we're getting Ryan's random conversations with Ellen, which is where the good stuff usually is. Alas, for I am too lazy to stream, and too often not home in the mornings. But I wanted to hear him say something about what happened last night, and he has not and now I'm irritated that I listened Pink and Flo Rida for nothing.
jlh: Debbie Harry, recently (music: Debbie Harry)
  1. Debbie Harry was on Soundcheck and was asked for her advice to young artists. I'm pretty sure the interviewer expected some kind of punk rock stay true to your sound and fuck the label answer, but what she said was, "Don't sign anything without good legal advice."
  2. Thom Yorke is awesome, and everyone loves Terry Gross.
  3. ATC on what Al Gore was doing after he conceded the presidential election in 2000: Then he traveled the world, gained some weight, grew a beard for a while, and put together a powerpoint presentation on global warming. I mean, you can't really argue with that as a summary.
  4. Re the Anderson trial: Are you fucking kidding me? An all-white jury? Did we walk into 1937 when I wasn't paying attention? I'm with the family's lawyer: "You kill a dog, you go to jail. You kill a little black boy and nothing happens." At least the state of Florida did the right thing, giving money to the family and shutting down the camp.
  5. And then the kid from Jena goes back to jail. I swear to god, some days I wonder why I even bother.
  6. And then I see the crazy Yuletide thing going on and I realize that I HAVE to bother or maybe no one else will. NOT ON, FANDOM.

I'm annoyed because someone sent me a text asking me if I was home at 2:15 but I didn't get it until 6:15. And I was home! Drat!

My week

jlh: a sign in Lynchville, ME that shows distance to various Maine towns named after countries/cities (Paris, Norway, etc.) (Maine sign)
I'd say this was a GIP except there's a whole post here. However, regard the icon!

So on Tuesday I worked and then CC and I had mediocre sushi (good fish, too much rice, bit bland) and good bubble tea and then watched two eps of Veronica Mars. This is a little spoilery. )

Wednesday morning I took Veda to the vet and surprise, she was good as gold! She didn't want to go into her carrier, but at the vet she stood nicely on the table and let him look at her, and weigh her, and let the assistant hold her while the vet gave her some shots, and then put her back in her carrier. I didn't even recognize my own cat she was so good! Then I worked and saw my friend S for dinner, who is going to have another baby in November, somewhat unexpectedly. S: "If you have unprotected sex, you will get pregnant, even if you're nursing!" I think it also surprised her since it took them a while to get pregnant the first time, so I don't think she was thinking of herself as particularly fertile. Her son is crawling around like a demon and starting to remember me from my semimonthly visits which is exciting.

Thursday consisted of 16 hours of sucking, so let's not discuss that. However, at 5pm, about two hours after she'd given birth, Heidi pings me asking me to upload a picture to LJ for her as it's tough to do remotely. Then she says:
H: Wow, I'm hungry.
C: Heidi, YOU JUST HAD A BABY.
H: Well, yeah.

Yesterday was much better—I worked and then went to the bookstore to get Fruits Basket 8 and the market for a few things that I couldn't get via Fresh Direct. After dinner I ate a bowl of left over sponge cake, two containers of Cozy Shack chocolate pudding, a half pint of raspberries, and whipped cream. I'm sure you can tell many things from that.

A minirant about today's Weekend Edition. )
jlh: Clara Bow (It Girl)
Last Sunday I spent a harrowing five hours driving in a snowstorm from Portland to Cambridge—a trip that should have taken two hours, but traffic had slowed to about 20mph in the snowy dark, and oddly there wasn't much plowing happening on 95/128, much less Route 2. (That hill coming into Cambridge? Absolutely terrifying.)

Anyway, since C and I were in seperate cars, we began listening to NPR in New Hampshire to pass the time and distract us without distracting us. I heard This American Life rebroadcast the Santa Diaries in their full length; the early news about the tsunami on All Things Considered; and that staple of weekend NPR programming, Car Talk. For those of you unfamiliar with Car Talk, it's a call in show about cars that is very funny due to its hosts Tom and Ray, brothers who never take anything all that seriously. Every week, they have a Car Talk Puzzler, sort of a word problem which is often though not always automotive-related. Listening as we were to the puzzler, I immediately came up with an answer and texted it to C, who said, maybe, or maybe it is some other thing.

Well, I am sitting here listening to this week's Car Talk and friends, I was absolutely fucking correct! And it was an automotive-related puzzler! I so rule!

I also need an icon with a car in it.

I saw that [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge was doing that old unpopular opinions meme, so I had to dig up my stab at it from last November. I have to say, I pretty much am still in on all of it. I'm also happy to say that re #8, I've come a long way, baby.

Today has been an overcast day with a lot of indirect sunlight, and Jonathan Schwartz was playing a lot of late 50s-early 60s jazz on his show today and I just had this prickly feeling about winter coming and summer being over and a vision of my future that I hope is coming.

I simply cannot focus. I'm not bored, exactly, as there are things I could be doing. But, there haven't been a lot of people on YM lately, and I didn't realize how much vaguely chatting with everyone gets me through the workday. So instead, I've been perusing friendsfriends. What I love about that is seeing some totally crazy community or person ranting and you can click through to their info to see who the bloody hell on your flist has them friended. My results so far are:
  • People who don't want kids enough to be in a community about it seem really angry. Dude, you have my total support. There is nothing worse on this earth that people who don't want kids, having kids. But seriously, is the hostility necessary?

  • There are a lot of Alton Brown fans out there and thank god for that. I love that on his blog he said "The fact that "Dr." Phil has the number 1 cookbook on Amazon.com makes me want to end it all."

  • I need Photoshop now now now now now because I am suffering from severe icon envy and now I want to sit around making icons of everything I think is cool. Which is a lot of stuff, let me tell you. Luckily I have connections.

  • Silly entries are fun from friends and entirely uninteresting from strangers.

I am going to put friendsfriends on my link list for ease of use. Further proof of my lack of focus:

I am hugely loving the "indie rock" channel on YM radio. Also, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] the_snoo my new catchphrase is "gay gay gay." As in, "I watched a documentary on Peter Allen last night and wow, was he gay. Gay gay gay."
