So [personal profile] glockgal did some drawble bribery a week or so ago, looking for drabbles in exchange for some drawings. You can see the Parvati/Pansy she drew for me, as well as a huge pile of other awesome art, here at her art journal.

In exchange, I wrote a Beatles ficlet set during their time in India:

Meat: John, Paul, George and Ringo, with Mia and Prudence Farrow, Gen, 500 words, PG. Just because Ringo wants to eat something other than lentils doesn't mean he can't act as a gentleman should.

Sorry LJ'ers for the slight crosspost of the fic link, but I wanted to make sure everyone had the link to the AWESOME ART!!!!!

  1. I'm thinking of applying to be an author at [livejournal.com profile] aific. I can link them to three Idol fics. Which three should I use? Suggestions would be more than welcome.
  2. Artist friends, [livejournal.com profile] kaalee is looking for thoughts and suggestions about what tablet to purchase.
  3. I've seen this 30-posts-in-30-days TV meme going around, which looks great, but I wonder if there is a film one? If not, I think I'll make one. (note: [personal profile] sistermagpie, I'm expecting you to help me.)

Usually when I receive something I thank people in private rather than on my LJ; this is a public space and not the best place for one-to-one messages in my experience. However, sometimes I get things that I want to share with y'all, and that's the case with the present I got from [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose just now!

Sweet OTP-ness! )

Thanks, Ali!

I'm going to start by praising the latest story posted to [livejournal.com profile] deamus, Tomorrow Night by [livejournal.com profile] anothersuperboy, who was the author of the superlative Oliver/Cedric story rightfully praised in many quarters. NC-17, so be forewarned, and taking place during book 6. Just, excellent.

I just received the last of my "giftmas" presents, an amazing illustration by [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose of the folks from Eight Ways From Sunday, which she posted to her Deviant Art space. She gave me the art, framed, last night at dinner and I had to PUT IT AWAY or I would have just stared at it the entire time. I knew that she was doing a piece of the eight main characters in the story but I didn't realize what she was actually going to do with it and I'm beyond pleased. I can't even start to talk about what I love about it or I'll just detail the entire drawing. Just go look at it! (I would have used her art in the icon, but the other thing she's done is the scene when sad!Dean paints sad!Seamus and I'm not sad!)

Meanwhile I have been writing! Look for a certain amount of spam this weekend, including a bunch of things for [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100, a little gift for a sick girl, and a moving present for a friend.

Like the icon? Want to see more of the same? [livejournal.com profile] bhanesidhe is having an art sale, and she certainly doesn't have them every day, so go check it out!

I'm experimenting this winter with pie-like deserts like cobbler and such; I made my first cobbler the other day and though the recipe needs adapting it was quite good. In that spirit, at the request of [livejournal.com profile] wordplay, my mother's apple crisp recipe )

Another tip: Two years ago I was hosting Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie with a graham cracker crust was requested, but when I went to the store there were no graham crackers to be found. (My local market is a little random.) I substituted ginger snaps for the graham crackers and it was so good, I'm never going back. They aren't any sweeter than graham crackers and that little bit of spice in the crust is excellent.

Okay, so I didn't mean to go so long without posting, although I will say that I've been here, reading and things, so it's not like it was some big LJ break. However, I was working a lot, and riding a wave of school-based anxiety, and things like that.

Over the last ten days I had dinner with friends like the visiting D, [livejournal.com profile] emsariel, [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose (though sadly not [livejournal.com profile] bhanesidhe), and [livejournal.com profile] cassandraclaire; I watched the first episode of Six Feet Under with [livejournal.com profile] bowdlerized; I packed [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose's kitchen. C came to stay last weekend, during which we ran about and did that thing we do, which included going with D to the reopened MoMA, which is massive, my friends. You used to be able to do it in one day, but oho, no longer. The galleries are amazing, and the permanent collection of MoMA so extensive that it's like being at the Lourve or D'Orsay—"I know that one!" keeps going through your head. I highly recommend.

Also, there were piles and piles and piles of Gil/Nick slash to be read, hence the new icon I made today. Very geek love. Speaking of icons, I also got one o' them there permanent accounts as a back to school present for myself, along with some art I purchased from [livejournal.com profile] seviet that arrived the other day.

Oh, and it's fucking hot. I hate summer.
