I'm going to start by praising the latest story posted to [livejournal.com profile] deamus, Tomorrow Night by [livejournal.com profile] anothersuperboy, who was the author of the superlative Oliver/Cedric story rightfully praised in many quarters. NC-17, so be forewarned, and taking place during book 6. Just, excellent.

I just received the last of my "giftmas" presents, an amazing illustration by [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose of the folks from Eight Ways From Sunday, which she posted to her Deviant Art space. She gave me the art, framed, last night at dinner and I had to PUT IT AWAY or I would have just stared at it the entire time. I knew that she was doing a piece of the eight main characters in the story but I didn't realize what she was actually going to do with it and I'm beyond pleased. I can't even start to talk about what I love about it or I'll just detail the entire drawing. Just go look at it! (I would have used her art in the icon, but the other thing she's done is the scene when sad!Dean paints sad!Seamus and I'm not sad!)

Meanwhile I have been writing! Look for a certain amount of spam this weekend, including a bunch of things for [livejournal.com profile] fanfic100, a little gift for a sick girl, and a moving present for a friend.

A brief self-indulgent passage about EWFS and plot. )

Now the thing about romance and adventure is, if you're going to have both you really have to start out that way, OR, you have to have the adventure as something that horribly interrupts the romance. But you can't plonck the adventure down just before the end of the romance because you forgot to include it from the beginning. I have said this before and I'll say it again: If the romance is good, it is actually enough.

Of course, as you'll see from the list below, the way I conceive of romance is not just, two people meet and fall in love, but more, two people meet and could fall in love, but they are fallible and get distracted by things that may or may not be important and may be internal or external, all things that have to get resolved before the romance can conclude. That's really what's lacking in post-1965 romantic comedies; they think they have to invent artificial devices to keep the characters apart. But if you look at the classics, what keeps them apart, most of the time, is themselves.

With all of that in mind, my top ten romantic couples. )

1--You know, it's times like these that I'm glad I'm such an aloof bitch who hardly ever friends anyone she hasn't met, because I haven't had to see this "marriage is created by God" bullshit on my flist. I could tell you why it's crap, but I shouldn't have to; I could tell you why I feel so strongly about it, but it shouldn't matter. If you disagree, do it where I can't see you. And I'm screening anonymous comments (not because of this but because of all that Mel Gibson spam) so like, don't even.

2--I got a review for EWFS the other day, and it really excites me that folks are still actively reading that story, since it was completed over a year ago. I'm happy to say that that long-planned, long-yammered about sequel to EWFS is finally under way! I hope to have something posted within a couple of months. Watch this space.

3--I was noting that there are a big bunch o' folks that have me friended--almost 200! I know some of you came by after that whole silly smut thing, but not all of you. So the question of the hour is, why do you have me friended? If you could tell me something about yourself, that would be great, too!

So I saw the rec page thingum through [livejournal.com profile] acadine's page, and I went to it, and no Clio. Not even the smut. And I admit, I was vaguely annoyed, because dude, am I a slasher or not? So:
