Now. About yesterday's entry. I work in the media industry. It's actually part of my job to watch important television events for a variety of reasons. (Yes, even though I couldn't give a shit about football, if I don't watch the Superbowl I will go into work on Monday and people will look at me oddly and say, "Why do you work here?") My watching the Golden Globes isn't plebey, it's professional. (It's also fun, actually, but I'm being defensive here.) It's awards season. Expect to see commentary about them here, behind a cut tag. If you don't like it, ain't nobody forcing you to read any of this, not only because IT WILL BE CUT FOR CHRISSAKES and because you can always defriend me. Door's over there.

That said, I forgot to note, mmmmmm Jude Law. MMM. And, I am very annoyed to have just watched the Golden Globes fashion review and they didn't even mention Queen Latifah. bitches. However, all of them said they liked Renee better with curves, so there.

Now to bed, to think up something clever for a certain miss something's birthday.

Ehh, sadly enough, I'm cynical enough to think it's industry standard to compliment actresses gaining weight for roles, as it's a way to look encouraging to critics of the anorexic models, while at the same time not encouraging all actresses to 'blimp up' to, say, a healthy size. "We only like your size because it makes us look good and it's not permanent."

Also, I'm curious, because your job sounds interesting: what kinds of things do you look for in these media events?

It isn't just actresses; they do the same with actors. There's a real obsession with the whole thing. I hate faux-entertainement journalism—in fact, I never watch E! anymore. It used to be good and now it's just like 24 hours of ET. I want the real thing, in places like the NY Times, LA Times, EW and the trades.

I probably look at them like anyone else. I want to see what silly thing they're doing and what people are wearing, but it's also interesting to see the new ads, and who is going to get a box office boost from the awards (like Monster). Also things like noting that the only non-cable tv award the other night was Anthony LaPaglia's. I just think about it all a bit deeper than other people, I guess, and then I post about it.

Today I was searching around on Amazon and realized that nearly all the current best-sellers were Golden Globe winners; I never realized what a giant boon these awards can be re: the box office.

Not as though anyone's suprised. All the networks are too busy feeding people roaches to write a script.

That's me! Yup, I hate it when people make ten posts in a row about awards shows, especially WITHOUT a cut tag (for spoilers reasons). That's just my personal peeve. If it's behind a cut tag, hey, no prob in my book.

The only posts about the Globes on my friends page are Kristen's and Zorb's, which are really just "squee LotR", so since mine was the only post I knew of that talked at length about the awards, yeah, I assumed you were talking about me. Nice to know that you weren't, since I didn't think I was doing anything particularly obnoxious, so thank you for your comment.

The Oscars has a live audience of a billion people worldwide so since I will be cutting comments for length (and won't be saying anything so immediately) I don't think I'll be fretting too much about spoilers. This sort of thing is all over the news almost immediately anyway. It's like not telling someone who won the Superbowl.

Noooooo, no, no! I wasn't *at all* referring to you -- ah the joys of having different people on our flists, eh? Actually, I think what irritated me in particular, is the posters I *am* referring to were not using the cut tag and were spoiling the winners, and the show hadn't even aired in California yet. I thought that was slightly rude. Okay, so the world isn't going to end because of the Golden Globes being spoiled, but nonetheless I thought it was a bit irritating and distasteful.

I really enjoy awards shows as well -- the MTV awards are a particular favorite of mine, followed by the Oscars and Golden Globes. My husband and I always make an evening of the Oscars.

I thought that was amazingly obnoxious, since they were talking about how not great Sharon Stone looked and she was right next to her looking fabulous.

I have great hopes for People/In Style. I think they will get it right.

I don't agree with "blacklisting" anyone for not "locking down" adult content, regardless of location, either on LiveJournal, or on the web. It's up to PARENTS to keep their children away from adult content material, NOT AUTHORS.
