Some things that are actually related
Jan. 27th, 2004 01:04 amVery very happy belated birthday to
resmiranda, who is, as my mother would say, a kick in the pants. So glad to smoke with you at Nimbus, my dear, and so good to have you on my flist, always swimming against the current. The rest of this entry you can consider to have been inspired by Our Res' fightin' spirit.
Don't you hate bullies? I do. But here's a quote for the rest of you:
It is the common fate of the indolent to see their rights become a prey to the active. The condition upon which God hath given liberty to man is eternal vigilance; which condition if he break, servitude is at once the consequence of his crime and the punishment of his guilt.
--John Philpot Curran, “Election of Lord Mayor of Dublin,” speech before the Privy Council, July 10, 1790.
Or if you'd like something later and more familiar:
Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty—power is ever stealing from the many to the few.
--Wendell Phillips, speech before the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society, January 28, 1852.
So if you're actually freaked out, see
praetorianguard or
heidi8 or
tobymalfoy, and then redirect that nervous energy to joining the ACLU.
Now. About yesterday's entry. I work in the media industry. It's actually part of my job to watch important television events for a variety of reasons. (Yes, even though I couldn't give a shit about football, if I don't watch the Superbowl I will go into work on Monday and people will look at me oddly and say, "Why do you work here?") My watching the Golden Globes isn't plebey, it's professional. (It's also fun, actually, but I'm being defensive here.) It's awards season. Expect to see commentary about them here, behind a cut tag. If you don't like it, ain't nobody forcing you to read any of this, not only because IT WILL BE CUT FOR CHRISSAKES and because you can always defriend me. Door's over there.
That said, I forgot to note, mmmmmm Jude Law. MMM. And, I am very annoyed to have just watched the Golden Globes fashion review and they didn't even mention Queen Latifah. bitches. However, all of them said they liked Renee better with curves, so there.
Now to bed, to think up something clever for a certain miss something's birthday.

Date: 2004-01-26 11:11 pm (UTC)Sorry if I relayed the impression that I was referring to anything other than ten posts in a row without a cut tag. No offense was intended.

Date: 2004-01-26 11:41 pm (UTC)Yeah, I know. And they COMMENTED on another girl in the frame with her! She was gorgeous and then never said a word! GRRRRRRRRRR. I think she looked like a dream. <3333333

Date: 2004-01-27 05:22 am (UTC)The Oscars has a live audience of a billion people worldwide so since I will be cutting comments for length (and won't be saying anything so immediately) I don't think I'll be fretting too much about spoilers. This sort of thing is all over the news almost immediately anyway. It's like not telling someone who won the Superbowl.

Date: 2004-01-27 05:23 am (UTC)I have great hopes for People/In Style. I think they will get it right.

Date: 2004-01-27 05:29 am (UTC)I probably look at them like anyone else. I want to see what silly thing they're doing and what people are wearing, but it's also interesting to see the new ads, and who is going to get a box office boost from the awards (like Monster). Also things like noting that the only non-cable tv award the other night was Anthony LaPaglia's. I just think about it all a bit deeper than other people, I guess, and then I post about it.

Date: 2004-01-27 07:17 am (UTC)I don't agree with "blacklisting" anyone for not "locking down" adult content, regardless of location, either on LiveJournal, or on the web. It's up to PARENTS to keep their children away from adult content material, NOT AUTHORS.
Keep writing. And don't let power-trippers tell you how to run your website or your life.
Sincerely
Feeling put out because she isn't on the list. But then, I don't write fanfic. Just plain old erotica.

Date: 2004-01-27 09:48 am (UTC)I really enjoy awards shows as well -- the MTV awards are a particular favorite of mine, followed by the Oscars and Golden Globes. My husband and I always make an evening of the Oscars.
I'm *really* sorry you thought I was referring to your post -- I was so not! I don't think the person(s) in question is/are on your flist.
*hugs*

Date: 2004-01-28 12:44 am (UTC)Not as though anyone's suprised. All the networks are too busy feeding people roaches to write a script.
