I am so angry right now, I am not even sure which end is up.

There was a bit of a to-do elsewhere, having to do with NA, the specifics of which I will not relate here. But in the course of that to-do, the instigator said:

" . . . you have 200 people watching NA all because of [livejournal.com profile] potterstinks."

I want to say for the record that I started watching NA not because of the Draco player. I started watching because of Seamus and Dean. This was long before I had any involvement whatsoever in NA; I was just watching. I continue to watch because of the interactions between lots of the minor characters--Susan and Justin, Lavender and Neville, all the pouty Ravenclaws--the list goes on and on and on. As a matter of fact, anyone who doesn't think that this from [livejournal.com profile] jadedsirius and this from [livejournal.com profile] lupercus don't rival any of the brilliant things [livejournal.com profile] potterstinks has posted has their head so far up their own H/Dcentric ass that they can't even walk.

All apologies before I begin to my friend and fellow OTP'er [livejournal.com profile] vanityfair but this illustrates once again WHY I don't read much H/D and can't be arsed to get too involved in that side of the fandom. One trick pony, anyone? Are there no other characters for you people? Sure, there are shippers in the fandom, but at least they don't think that their wee corner is the entire fandom (or at least its burning molten core of coolness). I mean, take a poll of those folks over in SBRL-land (many of whom don't even like Harry, by the way) and they won't be under any such impression. They are happily sitting in their own little sector, but they know it's a little sector.

[livejournal.com profile] potterstinks is a great player--of that there is no doubt. But what keeps the machine that is NA rolling along is ALL the players and their interactions. It's why I started watching, it's why I was honored when asked to join, and it's why I remain as a player and a watcher. The books may center around Harry but NA doesn't--not exclusively--and that is exactly what makes it so great and so much fun to be a part of. Those of you who think that this is the "Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy making sweet, sweet love" fandom can leave by that door over there--or at the very least defriend me now. If H/D is all you want to read, write and recommend, that's great. Have at it. But if it's all you think is worthwhile in the fandom, then you are no better than the Sugar Quill.

And yes, I mean that as an insult.

first things first, i love your icon. secondly, i agree with everything you said, and you probably imagined i would. i mean, having an OTP does not mean shipping it to the exclusion of all other ships, and I think that people who don't read the other journals on NA, or, for instance, only read the Trilogy for the slashy parts, are missing the ENTIRE POINT, as well as depriving themselves of some absolutely wonderful writing.

I don't get it. And so, amen.

*seconds the Amen*

Even the player of Draco doesn't understand why people would watch NA purely for potterstinks or the slash.

I personally love NA for the friendship interactions, they make me very giggly. :D

Sweetie, I think _you_ are the best thing on NA.

Not that I have any clue what prompted this, or that anything I say will make one whit of difference, but I watch NA for the side characters more than anything else. I mean yeah, the H/D stuff is fun, but I got more of a kick out of watching Lupin, Black, and Snape dance around one another than anything that Harry and Draco did. But then, I'm told I have odd tastes :).

I just want to say that I wholeheartedly agree. I may play one of the supposed "main" characters, but without everyone else, it would get damned boring really quickly.

There's no denying that people will have their favorite characters, be it in the books themselves, at NA, or what have you. But ultimately NA is for the players, and I do find it somewhat dismaying that people simply watching might have influence over what we're doing, and make it no longer fun for the players. That makes me very sad.

I wonder how these supposed fans will feel if their actions ultimately cause the RPG's demise?

If it weren't for us, the background players, where would NA be?

It'd be just another random H/D fic/RP. It's because of all of us that make us interesting.

And personally, I think [livejournal.com profile] potterstinks is over-rated.

They're all a bit overrated, aren't they?

Btw: Gred & Forge -- what have you two got up your sleeves for the near future?

NA? ::looks vague:: What's NA? I've been part of the fandom for over a year and NA hasn't even touched me so it can't be the be-all and end-all or even the 'molten centre' of anything, let alone H/D in NA.

::shrugs and takes uncool self off to another part of the fandom:: Divinely indifferent, I am. ;)

I know what you mean. Focusing on one character or one ship or one what-have-you to the exclusion of others is simply ridiculous. No character (or person) can possibly operate in a vacuum. NA's a lot of fun to read, but that's because all the characters are well-written, not just one or two. And I would like to second the Snape/Sirius/Remus dancyness, which is far too amusing to read.

Pardon my mutilating of the English language. It's two in the morning and I've been attacking French grammar for the past two hours.

While I outright *adore* Potterstinks, his characterizaton is not the reason I'm watching it.

Ron is just beyond genius. The player has completely nailed him for me.

Also Millicent. God I love that characther, she cracks me up.

I can't think of a character I actually don't like, but those two are stand-out for me.

It's not all about Potterstinks that's for sure.

Personally, I wish Sirius, Remus, and Severus all posted more, because I think they are much more entertaining than Draco.
