Clio's London Journal, Day 2
Feb. 1st, 2003 01:23 am*crawls out from under*
What a week! What a few weeks, really. I've been running nonstop since I got back from London, on RL stuff like, oh I dunno, work? And Cassie came home, and Ali is home now, so there was much celebrating. But now things should kind of settle down.
Nothing much to report, except that I have been dissatisfied with quiz results. So with no further ado:
epicyclical,
ali_wildgoose woke quite late, and I went across the street to the little bodega-like store to get eggs for breakfast, and we ate and t00bed around and gossiped until quite late. We secured rooms at a bed and breakfast near Oxford for Saturday night, then motivated to go to the Tate Modern. Only, we left all our guide books behind. So we went to the tube station, acertained the proper station for the Tate, and set off. Once there, we found some rough directions, but I had been there before so as we got close I spied the building and was able to guide us the rest of the way.
God, but I LOVE modern art, especially non-representational art, and they have a ton of it. Great Pollock, Stella, Johns, the usual suspects. Plenty of photography as well, including Cindy Sherman. And an entire room devoted to Mark Rothko, my favorite painter. It's so beautiful, and so reverential. Sure, there was plenty of really quite silly stuff, but there is also a great deal of amazing art there. Lots of things had changed even since I was there in May, so it was really a great time. I often go to the museum alone here in NYC but going with pals is a lot of fun, too.
We left around closing and after some futzing found a cute little hole-in-the-wall red-sauce Italian place where I had some very good cannelloni. However, when I asked for some extra sauce, I got clam sauce. It was a little odd. And the bruschetta was bread with tomato sauce and melted cheese, which was also odd. But the ice cream was good.
Back we went to
marysiak's flat, where we chatted for a bit. Then everyone was in bed early, as we needed to be at lunch in Oxford the next day.
And the evening and the morning were the second day.

Date: 2003-02-01 12:30 pm (UTC)1. We got there at one! It started at noon! (And might I remind you that those who got there before noon had to bang on the door of the pub to get them to open.) Besides, it was a sort of open-house thing, so plenty of people arrived after us.
2. There were some things that prevented us from getting there earlier even though we were good girls and up early, which will be featured in the next post.
