As you may have noticed, I've started posting a new chaptered fic, A Dream That Could Not Last, and now I'm asking you all to give it a go. Even if you aren't an Idol watcher, or you haven't read real-person-fic, you may find something here that you like—because it's an alternate universe, you needn't know anything about Idol to follow what's happening in the story.
As is usual for me, A Dream That Could Not Last is very much an ensemble piece, focused on three main pairings—one lesbian, one straight, one gay. The gay couple is Ryan and Simon (natch) and they're at the center of the story, but the other two pairs are just as important, and a bunch of other women and men float around in the secondary pairings.
If you're interested in the early days of WWII in Europe, or the romances and romantic comedies of the 30s and 40s, I think you'll like in this story. It follows the period November '39 to November '40 in the lives of some Americans in London—reporters at the BBC, pilots in the RAF, and musicians in a swing/jazz revue. This is also the first time I've completely written a fic before posting it, so you won't even be signing on to a work-in-progress. It's been in the works for almost a year, so I'm excited to share it now. I even changed my LJ layout in its honor—now I'm all black and white and grey, like an old movie!
