OMG.
OMG BARNEY.
OMG.
*flails*
So now everyone knows except Robin, because we all know that Lily and Marshall have absolutely no secrets. I love that Ted figured it out. I love that he made a decision for Barney's happiness. I love that one of Barney's crazy ideas (and seriously, is he reading Hetalia?) totally backfired on him. I love the destroyed televisions. I love that he tried to buy his way out of the problem. I love that Ted and Robin are back to their annoying military jokes (private thing—salute!).
I love that the hyped storyline with Kim Kardashian, Spencer & Heidi, and Kendra from the Girls Next Door was the total B-plot. Craig & Carter continue to be very clever about using publicity to benefit the show without impacting it—see Britney. But still, I love Marshall, I love the vague reference to Master of My Domain, I love Marshall going from nervous to confident and back to nervous, and Barney of course having a bathroom in his office all along. And I love that Marshall was reading "Them" magazine.
I love Lily continuing to treat Barney like a five year old, which really works for them. I love Feelie the Share Bear and the Share Chair. I love that Ben, whose parents are getting divorced, was one of the kids who was always fighting. (Shades of Veronica Mars in their conservation of minor characters, like Marshall's boss's boss, the colleague of Barney.)
I love that Robin's need to put everyone in a box is getting in her way here. I love Barney actually trying. I love the music cue at the end of the episode. I love Ted and Barney's significant glance.
I love watching a show that actually shares my narrative priorities. I love Craig and Carter and Pamela and Josh and Cobie and Alyson and Jason and NPH and Saget and all the writers. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Date: 2009-01-13 05:38 pm (UTC)I totally did not catch "Them" magazine--it is now my favorite joke in the episode.
And the whole "I'm in love with her" / "I love you" joke with Barney blurting it out and then pretending he was being Ted was both very clever and really really great on a meta level when you think about the whole Ted/Barney relationship. Barney has meaningless sex but we know that part of the reason for that is that he's such a ridiculously vulnerable person that when he does fall in love he gets hurt.
Likewise Ted's all "I want to fall in love and have a family--serious relationships for me!" but can carry on a friends-with-benefits situation with his ex, a woman he was so set on early on, but now can break up with and be friends with without being destroyed.
Ted talks like the hopeless romantic because really he's a single man in possession of a good fortune in want of a wife. It's Barney who's the hopeless romantic who can only go all or nothing.

Date: 2009-01-14 07:15 am (UTC)That is totally who Ted is! Barney clearly is a hopeless romantic because of how he reacted to the whole Shelly thing by making himself into an entirely different person. Also, the virginity loss thing. Cynics are often disappointed romantics, after all.
Oh, I love you show. <3
