a Wednesday not full of Woe
Apr. 30th, 2008 05:13 pmI'm going to see Crowded House with
heidi8 tonight, leaving my house in about an hour for dinner, and I've eaten a salad, and I have some things to say, and a request:
- Can one of you awesome people who have my mobile number text me with the results for tonight? I'll get that post up at some point earlyish tomorrow.
- Top Chef is on tonight, so hello, why isn't the TWOP recap for last week done? It's less than five hours before the new episode and there's still just a recaplet? What the shit?
- That said, I'm glad that the AI boys are doing their recaps instantly. It gets them out ahead of some of the press and fan reactions, and I get to read shit right away. Jacob is particularly awesome today on things Randy/Simon/Paula/Ryan. He's starting to hate small David which makes me sad, not because I'm a fan of small David in particular, but for what it signifies.
- Similarly to Top Chef, I'm irrationally irritated that today's
fandomsecrets post isn't up yet. My favorite of yesterday had to be the weird cookware secret. - If you're not watching HIMYM you're ignoring my pleas anyway. If you are, you'll be unsurprised to learn that recent episodes have resulted in an avalanche of fic over at
himym_fic. It isn't what you might think, either. I need to comment, but I'd particularly recommend
dollsome's fic, and not because I know her, either. - I'm not writing any of this new fic, because I wrote Robin/Barney for Yuletide, and because I can be a hopelessly tidy thinker, all my fics in any canon create a mini-au. I can't keep writing getting-together stories because I've written the one, and all the other fics rest on that one. All of my AI fics, except the obvious AUs, are in the same universe—and if I were to write AI in the 80s, it would be in
lillijulianne's FTIH-verse; in the 60s, Radio Friendly-verse. If I ever wrote more Rentfic it would be in the same 'verse as Leaves of Grass. All my HP fic is in EWFS-verse except a few gift-fics. I don't know if this way of thinking opens me up or closes me off; I do know that it can limit the readership, which is problematic, and why I am trying to close certain doors behind me, and open a few more. - Yuletide might be the most purely positive and joyful experience I've ever had in fandom. I may well be, by nature, a rare-fandom sort of person. This would be ironic given that I've written primarily in one of the largest fandoms ever, for one of the best selling book series ever, and then RPF for the #1 show on American television. But there you have it.
