oh BARNEY. Poor lamb, in the limo, I just wanted to hug him. But I'm glad Ted stood up to him.

WAH!!!!

Ted broke up with Barney :((

I know I'm in the minority, but I've never understood the whole idea of one person never being allowed to have a relationship or shag with a friend's ex. I've never done that myself, but theoretically, I'm not sure why it's so taboo.

It's weird, I mean, I get the feeling of weirdness, and I bet if Barney had said something Ted would have been like, whatever, but I bet if Barney actually wanted to date Robin, rather than have her be just another girl, Ted would have been more okay with that. So who knows what will happen?

woe!

Exactly. I kept wondering, up until Ted climbed the fire escape, whether Barney was going to break down and admit that it wasn't about another score, it was that he really likes Robin. Instead, Barney kept being exactly the asshole Ted expected him to be.

It wasn't just about not being allowed to date a friend's ex, which is an over-formalized taboo (but admittedly awkward). I've only ever understood the taboo intellectually. I've had several friends go on to date exes or semi-exes before... it's awkward, in the sense that they might find out something embarrassing about me or how I behaved. But with Barney, I could see it more. Barney is ruthless, a skilled manipulator, and a total asshole in that arena. Ted's not just betrayed because of the awkwardness, but because for all intents, Barney used his asshole skills to hurt *Robin*, and possibly damage the group.

In those ex situations, I could be mostly fine with it because the guys were good guys. But Barney not only isn't usually a good guy, Ted gave him an opportunity to show that he was being good (like he has been several times) and Barney refused.

Perhaps this is the second big breakup of Barney's life. They'll turn it around, I'm sure ... but I'm enjoying the drama as they do.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Because the point was that to Ted Barney was just showing that things that were important to Ted really meant nothing to him. It probably hasn't occurred to him that in fact Robin should be with Barney, that she's not just somebody else to sleep with. So yay Ted's being (understandably) clueless too. The Bro code is superseded by actual love. But luckily with Ted standing up to him Barney will have to admit that if he wants to keep his friend. So more honest affection all around!

We now interrupt this posting of comments for a question from the non-watching peanut gallery who wanted to ask this last week but fell asleep, Ted Mosby there is played by Jonny Mosley?

The actor is Josh Radnor, unless you mean something else?

No, it just means Josh Radnor reminds me of Jonny Moseley.

I want that shredder. Scratch that: I want the motivational poster behind Barney's desk with the fighter jet and "Awesomeness" on the bottom. (I do not want the hot dog maker however because any New Yorker knows that's no way to eat a hot dog; what, he can't go downstairs to an omnipresent Gray's Papaya?)

How terribly sad for Barney and Ted! And how is the group friendship dynamic going to suffer? What'll Ted and Robin's relationship be like in the near future? What is Robin doing living with Ted in a year?? What the hell did the goat actually DO???

I believe I am all questioned out for the time being but there might be more later on in the day.

I think you can create your own at:

Although I like the pre-made ones better :) I think my favorite is Ambition.
