jlh: Pink Ladies from Grease (Too Pure to be Pink)

A meme and a poll.

Girly meme, totally stolen from [livejournal.com profile] longtimegone because I need to spend a few minutes not contemplating the urbanization of Paris during the Second Empire.

A small discussion on a friend's LJ leads me to ask these questions:
[Poll #939873]
Thanks!

23/99 on that meme, but it would be more if it included British celeb mags (Heat), and more fashion stores that also had guys clothes (like A|X).

Also, selected I don't discuss media of any kind in my LJ, because media here didn't seem to include music, which is generally the only media I talk about, other than anime occasionally.

...but I'm not sure my answers are representative of the "average" person, even on LJ.

  • I listen to lots and lots of music. If it's new, I might do a review or squee, but if it's older, I don't tend to think to mention it.
  • My printed media, if fiction, is generally SF/F or LMM -- not all, but most of it. My printed non-fiction these days tends to be religion/spirituality or health related.
  • My internet media tends to be national news-oriented; I generally only post about it if I find it relevant to myself or others on my flist, and then usually if no one else has mentioned it. (And the last few months, I've been on a bit of a news diet while I deal with lots of personal crap.)
  • The only TV I regularly watch these days is Mythbusters. Occasionally I'll catch something science, history, or religion related on the Discovery or History channels. The last TV show I regularly followed was Farscape, which qualifies as SF/F.
  • However, my movie genre of choice is more likely to be period films rather than SF/F -- with a handful of exceptions, I find most SF/F dramas to be terribly cheesy. I like longer story arcs with developing characters better than "oh look, the world's going to end!" or whatever similar dreck makes it to the big screen.

I don't do anime. I don't do reality TV. Even my yarn art of choice is weird -- I crochet rather than knit. I'm just an overall freak. s:)

Crochet FTW. So much cooler than knitting.

30ish/99, but it was kind of bending some of those answers to get that. And I kind of really dislike some of the implications of that poll.

As for why I don't talk about non-genre stuff in my LJ, I tend not to talk about genre stuff, either. I don't really discuss the books/movies/tv-when-I-watch-tv I'm involved in on LJ, for no very good reason except that I usually don't think about it. May start at some point, though.

I don't watch a lot of television, and the vast majority of what I read is nonfiction of one kind or another - currently Yokohama Burning and Lost Christianities. Honestly, most of the time I don't write about whatever I'm reading because I've been told that most people find it horribly depressing, and because outside of a formal analysis or critique, I'm much more likely to post an emotional response rather than any kind of rational discussion. I also think that on some level I associate my LJ with either personal flocked griping or fannish bounciness, neither of which is remotely appropriate for addressing most of the stuff I read.

And uh, 10/whatever the score was. It'd be lower, but the celebrity gossip section got me.

I seem to have gotten about 15/whatever. I counted my roommate's dog as my own since she lives here. She's a Pomeranian, but she's not very ladylike, honestly, but she could definitely be a mean girl in high school.

...because I do that elsewhere.

I watch almost no TV, and most of what I do watch is the food channel. I occasionally discuss this in my LJ, and everybody ignores it.

I got an 11 on that meme.

I don't think I post much about television/books/movies at all. Well, books, yes, but even then it's not so often making long meta posts about them because I know most of the time no one else has read them.

As far as TV goes, I only watch four shows: VM, Weeds, Heroes, and Dexter. Two of them are on hiatus for at least five months, one of them I post about on occasion, and the other I've never posted about at all. I spend most of my TV time watching shows that are no longer on, like NewsRadio and I Love Lucy. I do occasionally think about making I Love Lucy posts, but who is going to read them?

Sheesh, I score a 10. I've never considered myself particularly femmey, but I do think there's a huge difference between being a "girly girl" and being feminine.

My other genre is Spy TV; I also consume and discuss (obliquely, in some cases) news-media/public-square stuff.
