Ryan called Simon "Sy"? Simon got mad about Ryan teasing him about his heels? Oh boys.
As for the girls, many of them were blonde and uninteresting.
Kristy Lee Cook, "Rescue Me": I felt like I was at a wedding. I think she's going to make it to the next week, because she was featured in Hollywood week a great deal and sounded good then, but she needs to figure out who she is when she isn't singing "Amazing Grace."
Joanne Borgella, "Say a Little Prayer": She sounded fine (though breathless, due to either nerves or illness) and I do hope that she improves later,
Alaina Whitaker, "More Today Than Yesterday": Simon is not wrong about this song, which was a bit much twice in two nights. She was fantastic, and she'll get through (and we'll have a super young season, I'm beginning to think).
Amanda Overmyer, "Baby Please Don't Go": Wow, I was suddenly in a bar. She was fantastic, but she's going to have to get a little more mainstream to last in the finals—though I don't think she'll have trouble getting there.
Amy Davis, "Where the Boys Are": WHY this song? It's a lousy song, badly done (was she on key at any point in that performance?) and
aethelflaed2 couldn't even recognize the tune.
Brooke White, "Happy Together": So it was fine. I don't know, I'm not in love with Brooke, but I'm not hating on her either.
Alexandréa Lushington, "Spinning Wheel": I thought it was really fantastic. Excellent stage craft.
ali_wildgoose said she should stay in her lower register and this is absolutely true, but for the most part it sounded great. Simon hates jazz, whatever.
Kady Malloy,"Groovy Kind of Love": Hmm. It was really good, but sort of boring, as the judges said.
Asia'h Epperson, "Piece of My Heart": First, what is with the apostrophe? Second, it ain't a pop song honey, so don't sing it like one. Third, we already heard Amanda sing this a bunch of times. I know Simon thought it was fun, but I didn't love it.
Ramiele Malubay, "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me": So first, Jordin sang this song last year, so it could be dangerous. But she really, as Randy said, did it like a pro and saved the fireworks for the end. I think she's completely adorable.
Syesha Mercado, "Tobacco Road": Well, you can't say she didn't update the song and make it her own. And she did a fantastic job at it, too, and she's personality plus, and I think she's adorable.
Carly Smithson, "The Shadow of Your Smile": Whatever, Simon, I knew as soon as the song started that he wouldn't like it. I think it was great, and she'll be around next week.
I voted for Amanda, Alexandréa, and Syesha.

Date: 2008-02-21 12:31 pm (UTC)However, at several points during Alaina's song I yelled things at the tv like, "I want to eat your f*cking adorable nose right off your face!" and "She's so cute I want to puke all over myself!" So.... I don't really know what that was about... button noses do it for me I guess??
I watch this horrible idiotic show because of YOU!
*sigh*
And it's awesome.

Date: 2008-02-21 03:09 pm (UTC)Knowing what I do of your other attractions, I would say button noses absolutely do it for you, though I never put that together before. She is cute and she sang pretty well so I don't think she'll get that lost in the sea of cute little blondes.
Syesha was fantastic here, and also in Hollywood week where she lost her voice and still came out and blew them away.
Right now I'm having fun watching Simon pitching a fit about how he needs someone who can be on pop radio, which conflicts with Nigel wanting to have a big TV show. It's awesome. Simon is going to be so grouchy, in between giggling with Ryan.

Amy's was painful. She had me thinking of that girl in "Nashville" doing her song before she starts to strip.
I have to say I totally agreed with Simon's "washing up powder" comment (and how clueless is Ryan that he didn't know what that was)? Also there was one song that Simon had never heard. I can't remember which one it was now--was it Spinning Wheel? I was like--how did Simon manage to avoid that song? It was a big hit. Even I remember it.

Date: 2008-02-21 11:07 pm (UTC)Amy was just awful. You're telling me that SHE was in the top 24 of all the people in the nation who auditioned? Riiiiiiiiight. She'll be this year's Haley Scarnato.
