So many spoilers below. No CSI, Studio 60, or Top Design next week.
Best part of How I Met Your Mother: Slap #2.
There are between 6-8 episodes left of Studio 60, which is now off on hiatus for a bit. I hope that Sorkin was smart enough to wrap some things up because I absolutely cannot imagine that this show will be back next season. And this is really too bad, because it has an interesting cast of actors that are really trying to rise above the show itself (great characters doing pointless things) and Schlamme is doing some great directing here, and while all these people will work again, I'll miss these characters, miss seeing them interacting, but with Sorkin at the helm, I won't miss what will happen to them, because whatever that would have been, would have been just as stupid as what has already happened.
As for this week, I wanted Tom/Lucy follow up which I did not get. I'm tired of Cal being a total buffoon. The Danny/Jordan was relegated to a sweet, enjoyable and appropriately small C-plot. The B-plot, of Harriet on the movie set with Luke having a (as Luke points out) too-late fight over his (incorrect) interpretation of a controversial event in her character Anita Pallenberg's life was annoying for several reasons. 1, Harriet is so random about when she decides to stand up for herself and when she doesn't; 2, She said that Matt would never run three hours over just to screw with a former friend, as Luke was doing in keeping her on the set and away from Studio 60, when Matt did bid up the price of a charity date with Harriet just to screw with Luke, which started their whole fight in the first place; 3, Harriet defending Matt against Luke's unkind but fairly accurate assessment of him—an arrogant, self-destructive, egomaniacal prick—because he would never let anyone talk about her like that was far too neat a parallel to what was happening at that moment in the A-plot; 4, Why do we need to make Luke so unlikable? Oh, perhaps because Matt is really circling the drain, kept in my good graces only through the considerable efforts of Matthew Perry. As for the sexual harassment A-plot, I am not sure what the lawyer wanted Matt to do—testify that such behavior isn't acceptable? How does that benefit NBS? Or are they just trying to prove that whatever Ricky and Ron did wasn't company policy? Also, do we really need to further villify Ricky and Ron? I can't tell if I want him to be hanging around with that lawyer though my god, I wish that he would get over Harriet because he's not in love with her, but the idea of her, which isn't the same thing at all and I'm tired of Sorkin implying that it is. So, not really the episode I was looking for.
Veronica Mars, on the other hand, was totally what I was looking for. The V-Day scavenger hunt was adorable. More Mac and her man, please. And even if Parker/Logan was predictable from the moment another girl was added to the cast, and even if Parker will kick him to the curb at the first sign of emo because she has no time, I enjoyed seeing Logan interact with someone other than Veronica and Dick. I also enjoyed Wallace's reference to the pilot when talking back to Lamb and Veronica's whole "I'm in a woman's prison" schtick. The resolution to the coach's murder was very VM with its twist. And ooh, the clothing in the furnace! I love it when Weevil is just around. OMG and all that Cliff! I don't think I want to read it, but it pleases me that there is Cliff/Keith slash in the world. I look forward to the resolution of the Dean O'Dell murder, too.
But most importantly: OMFG LAMB!!!!!! I don't know how I feel about it yet. I'll miss Michael Muhney, that's for sure, but he's a good actor, and attractive, and will come our way again. Apparently he has a pilot floating around. Someone on TWoP pointed out that with Keith as sheriff any last vestiges of noir in the show are gone; I'm not sure I totally agree, but it certainly is a blow to the universe. But it was a really great episode.
I am a bit annoyed that Felicia was out this week on Top Design. She was capable of better future work than Ryan, who got a bit of the Santino Memorial "at least he has a POV" pass from some of the judges. They've sent home four women and only one man so far. Next week looks like a big group project. Well, at least Todd is getting better.
Other women's hatred of facial hair makes me sad, or at least is one of those things that makes me feel like not the right sort of woman, since it's such a truism that a man with a beard has no woman, and as soon as he gets one, she'll make him shave. Can I redress this balance by making some man grow a beard? I just feel like I'm not holding up my end of the Great Woman Agreement here. Anyway, Sara took a straight razor and shaved off Gil's professorial beard and I am sad. But it was nice to see Nick and Gil side by side out in the field again.

Date: 2007-02-23 03:47 pm (UTC)Keith looks dorkier in his uniform, too. Somehow he's more powerful in a sport coat and jeans.

Date: 2007-02-23 04:00 pm (UTC)The only solo 'staches I like are Tom Selleck and my brother-in-law, both of whom have similar full, dark and not to handlebar'd mustaches and look really weird without them. Dad had one, but it was very thin and grey so you didn't really notice it.
