I hope everyone is surviving out there in whatever situation they find themselves on this holiday, whether you're on your own having a rest, sitting by a tree trying not to kill your family, doing Chinese-and-a-movie, finishing up your Kwanzaa preparations, still catching up on sleep from staying up until midnight the other night, or just having fun with the cable marathons.
I've been cooking all day, making presents for "Giftmas" with friends, while watching the Top Chef marathon with my mom, who'd never really watched the show before. I don't often talk about TC here because Keckler's recaps on TWoP and season 1 winner Harold's blog on Bravo are so fantastic, but seeing all the eps so far in a row got me thinking about Elia. It's very clear from the cater-a-party episode, but even from the beginning she isn't incredibly concerned with her clientele, only with what she herself thinks tastes good. It's unfortunate because that's the same mistake that Tiffany made; when asked by the judges toward the end she said she cooks for herself. I mean, having a cocktail party planning that each person would only eat 4 pieces, and then think it's okay to have three of those pieces be seafood is really bad planning. This attitude almost got her knife'd last week, and may well get her kicked off before the end, which would be too bad.
Last night I watched Ocean's 11 with mom; tonight we're watching the Mythbusters busting Hollywood heist myths. Good bookends to Christmas day for my money. (Though my mother wishes to be on record as firmly against Clooney for any kind of sexiest man status.)
