Talk about your anticlimax

I watched this the first time 'round in a bar in Chelsea with P and a couple of his friends and it seems to be the theme right now that everyone is like, yeah, whatever with this final. Like we're watching out of obligation, except all those Taylor people down at the Sam Goody.

I liked the reveal of the audience at the start, but it seemed sort of silly for Ryan to re-enter the stage like that. I'm sad that he was all clean shaven though I understand why. I also liked Simon's jacket though not his mike placement.

1. Katharine
   • "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree." Cute.
     
   • "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Awesome.
     
   • "My Destiny." Unfortunately not great, and 100% the wrong song for her.
   
   
2. Taylor
   • "Living for the City." I fucking hate Taylor and his stupid jacket.
     
   • "Levon." I fucking hate Taylor and his stupid dancing.
     
   • "Do I Make You Proud." I fucking hate Taylor and his stupid "woo, Soul Patrol!" shout outs.

I don't hate Taylor. I think Katherine is a better singer, but she kind of committed Idol suicide with that last song :( Taylor's song choices were better for his voice (IMO) and he nailed 2 out of 3 (relatively speaking) whereas Katherine really only nailed Rainbow.

Taylor really just pushes all of my buttons. I think he has an amazing voice, and Kat got screwed by her crappy Idol single that really played to the very weaknesses that the judges have pointed out all season. I just wish Taylor would sing a song written after 1980 and stop with all the shtick. While I do have a love for soft rock I do NOT have a love for middle of the road bullshit like whatever they play on those "everyone in the office can agree on it" radio stations. You know, like Celine Dion and Shania Twain and all that.

Luckily I never have to listen to those stations. I've got my own radio with headphones, and I tend to listen to AirAmerica most of the day. Or else I put on my MP3player headphones and listen to that. A pox on middle-of-the-road radio! The only thing in the middle of the road is a yellow stripe and dead animals.

Dude, it was terrible. The only song I liked was Katharine's Over the Rainbow. That "first single" song was utterly appalling. IT WAS TERRIBLE!!!! Katharine's "first single" was worse than Taylor's, and she was flat as a pancake on it in parts, bless her heart.

WAH. Seeing Chris there just made me sad. He shoulda been up there with Katharine.

Taylor's hideous purple velvet(een?) jacket was just the last straw.

Oh, and I answered the poll that I was writing a paper, but I was actually writing a report. I suppose that qualifies as a paper, though, eh? *FLAILS!*

Chris should at least have been up there with Taylor, as he was the only one who could ever have beat him. But Chris will be fine, and probably better off for not having to deal with the Idol machinery, frankly. And Katharine will be fine because she'll do some Norah Jones thing, whatever.

I wish I would have voted, but I didn't. I just...I don't know. Commercially, Katharine is the best choice. Taylor is talented, but he has the wrong voice and style for what is popular now. He can't sing pop, R&B, or rock -- only so-called soul! What is that? The producers are going to ruin him. He should open up a bar in New Orleans and make millions of dollars serving southern cuisine and singing to his patrons. Katharine should become a pop-star, and I'm sure she will.
