jlh: a sign in Lynchville, ME that shows distance to various Maine towns named after countries/cities (Paris, Norway, etc.) (Maine sign)

I'm flying my little Maine flag today because Maine voters said no to the "people's veto" of the recent gay rights bill. It's a confusing double negative which means hurrah! So people of Texas, there is hope, as this is the third time this thing has come up over the last seven years and finally it stuck. I feel like this fight has been going on forever; I'm so very happy.

I'm also excited that both of the gubernatorial races went to Democrats. I think using someone's ex wife in an attack ad is pretty low; maybe the New Jersey voters agreed with me. Also go Virginia!

I'm amazed at the events of Dover, PA, where voters kicked out most of the school board, who wanted intelligent design taught in the schools, in favor of Democrats who backed evolution.

Brilliant that all those initiatives in CA went down, particularly the one about parental notification for abortions.

Also, how cute was Teri Garr on Letterman tonight? Seems like old times.

ETA: clarity, more results

yay for Maine indeed. for those of us in Texas (boo), it was a little ray of hope in an otherwise predictably depressing day.
