So we didn't end up going to the show on Sunday night, because the touring shows were cancelled months ago only no one knew that for reasons that are far too complicated to go into, and instead we had a nice dinner, a long fast walk on very full stomachs to a closed theater, a nice drive home, and collapsed on the couch and watched Surreal Life and Midsommer Murders. It's been a really excellent vacation so far. Lots of beach time and out in the sun time and being with close friends time.

Right now I'm trying to work on a couple of shorter pieces while D is practicing Bach on his piano. It's morning and the house is full of sunlight. We just finished an old NYT Sunday crossword puzzle, eating french toast with apples that I made for my last breakfast here. I've seen all the friends I wanted to see, and tomorrow I'm off for the land of [livejournal.com profile] tea_and_toast. But today it's mostly just me and D, here in his house.

Last day in LA, woe! D and I woke and were lazy, and then we went up to Malibu to have a seaside lunch with his neighbor. My, it was hot, but the crabcakes were good. We toyed with going to the beach, but the lunch really took it out of us, so instead I actually got some writing done while D practiced his piano. I have to admit, I was pretty proud at getting some writing done.

After a bit we decided to take a bottle of wine out onto his porch and talked about this that and the other thing over a bottle of pinot grigio and a bottle of some sort of red CA blend, both very yummy. We also indulged in some melon rum drinks (a very ripe melon being one of our Saturday night leftovers) and gnawed on the remains of the antipasto while on the porch. Needless to say, by the time C-the-bf got home from work we were a few notches past loopy, so he rolled us into his car and took us to the all night Mexican place to get some food into us.

Home again, D passed out while I packed and C read the Simon Cowell/Ryan Seacrest slash I wrote a while ago. His comments:
"I'm blushing!"
and
"Yeah, I heard this was true anyway."
