I am so angry right now, I am not even sure which end is up.
There was a bit of a to-do elsewhere, having to do with NA, the specifics of which I will not relate here. But in the course of that to-do, the instigator said:
" . . . you have 200 people watching NA all because of
potterstinks."
I want to say for the record that I started watching NA
not because of the Draco player. I started watching because of Seamus and Dean. This was long before I had any involvement whatsoever in NA; I was just watching. I continue to watch because of the interactions between lots of the minor characters--Susan and Justin, Lavender and Neville, all the pouty Ravenclaws--the list goes on and on and on. As a matter of fact, anyone who doesn't think that
this from
jadedsirius and
this from
lupercus don't rival any of the brilliant things
potterstinks has posted has their head so far up their own H/Dcentric ass that they can't even walk.
All apologies before I begin to my friend and fellow OTP'er
vanityfair but this illustrates once again
WHY I don't read much H/D and can't be arsed to get too involved in that side of the fandom. One trick pony, anyone? Are there no other characters for you people? Sure, there are shippers in the fandom, but at least they don't think that their wee corner is the
entire fandom (or at least its burning molten core of coolness). I mean, take a poll of those folks over in SBRL-land (many of whom don't even
like Harry, by the way) and they won't be under any such impression. They are happily sitting in their own little sector, but they know it's a little sector.
potterstinks is a great player--of that there is no doubt. But what keeps the machine that is NA rolling along is ALL the players and their interactions. It's why I started watching, it's why I was honored when asked to join, and it's why I remain as a player
and a watcher. The books may center around Harry but NA doesn't--not exclusively--and that is exactly what makes it so great and so much fun to be a part of. Those of you who think that this is the "Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy making sweet, sweet love" fandom can leave by that door over there--or at the very least defriend me now. If H/D is all you want to read, write and recommend, that's great. Have at it. But if it's all you think is worthwhile in the fandom, then you are no better than the Sugar Quill.
And yes, I mean that as an insult.
