Who is Cameron? Should I have picked that one?

Today was a very productive, successful summer Friday off.

  1. Submitted my FAFSA (which was my #1 objective)
  2. Talked to folks and lazed about
  3. Met [livejournal.com profile] cassandraclaire for a sushi lunch and a girlfriendy chat
  4. Went to the Apple Store and checked out the PowerBooks. [livejournal.com profile] moony, you were so right—after using a PB, the ibook felt like a toy. We'll talk.
  5. Failed to get either the new Fruits Basket or an issue of Intersection
  6. Succeeded in getting new headphones and cat treats
  7. Tidied up
  8. Had [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose over for dinner
  9. Read that mpreg fic [livejournal.com profile] tea_and_toast was talking about

So how do I feel about mpreg? I find it odd, particularly in non-magical universes, though this one is handling it in an interesting way and using it to, as Carrie pointed out, explore some things about that pairing that are often left unexplored. But what I wonder is, why isn't there more het preg? Or is it just that I don't usually see it? And I wonder if you can write a preg fic that isn't a sap fest?

Cameron is one of the people using the data for her or his dissertation. I picked it because I found it amusing.

And I wonder if you can write a preg fic that isn't a sap fest?

In theory, yes one could write a preg or baby!fic that isn't a sap fest. In reality, that rarely happens. In fact, it is rare that baby-fic is the bane (and possibly seen as banned or taboo) in some fandoms because it's just that poorly done.

If you're interested, Not Quite As Expected (http://inkstain.inkquill.net/isf/archive/13/notquite.html) is a Harry/Draco mpreg that is very, very good. Draco is the pregnant one and there are some great moments in it without it being too sappy. Rated NC-17.
