Happy May Day!

I just want to say, re this quiz: I really do not feel if you're looking for geeky bands that the list should be They Might Be Giants, Weezer, Fountains of Wayne, and Weird Al. That's just idiotic. Weezer and Fountains of Wayne have tons of hipster indie cred and have been critical darlings for years. And while TMBG and Weird Al are certainly both geeky, I really think they are not geeky in the same way. That said, I think we all know how much of a classic geek I may or may not be.

The birthdate meme, meanwhile, is just awesome.

Those bands were bad choices.

As for the birthday meme, it had nothing nice to say about me, so I have nothing nice to say about it.

How unsurprised am I that we are geeky in similar ways! And bah to that birthday meme, dude.

Meh. Am not even a convincing geek. The birthday meme was unnervingly good, though.

I didn't want to jump into your thread with kitsune, but I was delighted to learn that you, too, pay your taxes very efficiently by doing several years at once. :) I thought I was such a derelict for doing that, and you have relieved my secret shame!

ha! Um, well, I didn't actually mean to do that. What would happen is, my company is very lamely late in sending the W2, and by then I'd need to make the appt with the accountant and I'm really really bad at that sort of thing, so I'd procrastinate, and apr15 would come and go, and then I'd get nervous that the accountant would shout (which was silly) and so there was another year. But that only really works when you get money back. The nice thing is, I will have the money now, when I'll really need it in order to get ready for school, so it was likely all for the best.

But you, too, have relieved my secret shame! We are siblings in not-quite-tax-evasion!

See, there is a conspiracy of induced guilt and shame here - we must speak out and expose the true offenders! Those so-called leading corporations that can't get their act together enough to report your income to you. My company's favorite trick is to process a different W-2 for me from each department I work with, so I have to make sure I have them all. They have also managed to report more income to my state than they did to the feds, and just try to explain that on your form!

And, as you point out, procrastination is only possible if they actually owe you money. And Woe to You if you get that wrong. So we are providing free loans to the tax people, and apologizing to them for the imposition. (I write great apologetic/suckup cover letters where I try to sound too hopelessly like an idiot to be worth investigating.) Grrrr.

Yours, in brotherly-sisterly solidarity against the tax demons! (Could be a manga, no? Accountant-geekery!)

Dude, so true, so true. I did not include a note, as I have the same preparer and have been getting similar refunds since 2000 so whatever. Your payroll dept is clearly incompetent as I would think it would be easier for them to keep track of these things if they just gave you one vendor number that went across all departments. They need like, SAP or something.

My god, I can't believe I just said that. Okay, so full disclosure: I worked on the SAP launch in the US. It was my first Superbowl spot.

If we're in a manga I want to keep my hair. And I want a secret weapon that looks like a Ticonderoga pencil. And I want romance plotlines for each of us so it can be shonen and shojo. And I'm keeping my cat because she looks cute and friendly but is actually insane, which could prove useful.
