In marked contrast to yesterday, this morning I have gone grocery shopping, cleared out some clutter to make things tidy for a gathering here this evening, and planned my meals for the week. I also finished Brat Farrar, which I loved, though there was something a bit confusing that I won't elaborate on. And now I'm going to finish tidying up and bake a cake and then take a shower and then people will be here and it will be lovely, no?

Complete honesty: Sometimes I'm just in the mood to bake a cake.

I did think, oh, I could bake Val a cake, but I can't think of a cake that you would like that much, and the baba au rums I found seemed complicated and I wasn't sure the rest of the clan would want a big piece of eggy bread soaked in SoCo. I poked at the SoCo site but the cake featured there, frankly, looks dreadful.

And then last night Carrie was talking about what she should do with all the strawberries that she picked, and it's springtime and I was like, ooooh, strawberry shortcake! So I'm making a sponge cake for strawberry shortcake, thus fulfilling my need to make a cake (and sponge cake is dead easy, as it doesn't have all that creaming butter and adding the milk in stages business and unlike angel food cake it uses the yolks so there aren't a billion egg yolks sitting around) and celebrating spring at the same time! And I don't have to make frosting--just whip cream!

By the way, I think we're ordering in Indian for dinner. Could you bring some of that shibby Indian music you were playing in the park? That would be BRILLIANT.

There is a mighty trueness to this argument.

I mean, the whole, Val's cake-like preference thingum. And yes, SoCo mixes well with very few things which is why more often than not straight is the only way to go...well, with SoCo anyway. ^^;

As for the rest. Sound like a brilliant plan! I am leaving the house in five. *bounces*

I am making a sponge cake for strawberry shortcake! Sponges are really quite easy and don't demand all that creaming of butter and put in the milk and flour in stages business. Much beating of eggs, though.

So I just got S1 of Mary Tyler Moore at Wal-Mart on sale for $14.99. How fabulous is that? Especially after all of the Mary and Rhoda discussion earlier.
