It's SO nasty. It's basically just low grade ham, or possibly bologna, with cheesy macaroni pressed into it like pimento loaf. I don't want to denigrate it too much because people have voted for it, but the only thing I find more bizarre is head cheese.
I thought really hard about tuna, and while I do have smoked salmon up there, I decided that one does not eat like, a tuna steak sandwich, and I wasn't putting in the "salads".
I wish I could have a seafood poll but I can't think of a pun for the jokes.
You can vote for more than one thing. But I agree, prosciutto is my favorite sandwich meat by far. Then again, I don't really eat sandwiches so I'm a bad person to ask.
Some excerpts from Live Aid were on last night and there was The Who and Roger Daltrey just keeps looking and sounding really good, doesn't he? It's sort of amazing.
See, I thought you had enough white trash cred that you were being either ironic or nostalgic. I never ate it as a child because I have never much liked cold cuts, but I remember seeing it in the store and I'm pretty sure it's still there.
Now I'm going to go get Aja to comment as she voted for it as well!
You know, I woulda thought I had enough white trash cred to cover just about any relevant foodstuff (that E. Texas upbringing can't have been for nothing!) but this is a new one to me. We have been talking about driving up into the Piney Woods some spring weekend soon, and I'll keep a keen eye open for it at the teeny little grocery stores up there.
Hey, did you hear about the 'No Confidence' kerfuffle?
I did indeed. They've been calling me lately looking for money and I've just been not answering, but I think next time I'll pick up and say, "No money til he's out." That would hit him where he lives more than anything FAS has to say. The Corporation really only cares about the endowment anyway.
The whole thing is interesting and I'm really fascinated to see what happens next. All of this noise being made about academic freedom, combined with my experiences adjuncting and all of that, makes for very compelling writing on the wall. Plus, you know, academic sniping outstrips all others for sheer "bitch, please!" factor. Pass the macaroni & cheese loaf popcorn, man.
I did, and this was particularly satisfying here as Ken Lay was just on 60 minutes making "but I was just a victim! How was I supposed to know?" noises and the city still has a collective hate-on for the man.
I can't believe you un-voted for mac and cheese loaf.
I think more people have a hate on for Ken than for Bernie as Bernie is just an every day crook, whereas Ken's entire business model seems to have been built on an elaborate scam and contributed to the whole CA energy crisis.
Yeah, I mean, I'll be surprised if The Corporation really does anything about him, but if they get enough negative publicity they might. Also if enough alums get pissy they might.
Dude. It is one thing to vote for a nonentity that gives you a giggle. (e.g. Ross Perot) It's another to vote for something that's actively vile, even in the description. (e.g. GWB)
Well, and there are a lot of people here who lost jobs when Enron went under, including Marc. V. scary months, there.
They had two profs on The Today Show this morning arguing about it and MAN it was such an old-school academic argument.
An old-school academic argument about free speech? Or about women in math and science? FAS hates him anyway because he's such an autocratic prick.
I didn't realize Marc worked at Enron. ugh. I used to work on MCI, for about five minutes just before WorldCom bought them. I remember it all seemed very odd at the time. See, this is what happens when the people running the economy are fund managers and all anyone cares about is their stock price.
I felt I had to give pimento loaf a sympathy vote, if only because I remember it from my youth, as my grandfather *loved* the stuff and it was always on the table at lunch. Kojak as played by Telly is another nostalgia vote, because I distinctly remember Telly with that blindingly bald head and that damned lolly from when sis and I would watch tv on the sly, though in all honesty that is *all* I remember from that show. And, as usual, you amuse me greatly. :D
Actually, they got into this argument about some kind of petition that Professor A said that Professor B signed, and Professor B said, "Actually, no, I didn't sign it!" and Professor A responded with "Well, you supported it, at any rate." And Matt Lauer sort of panicked while these tried to grind their extremely worn axes there in front of him, and you could see that there were just years and years of hostility behind it all.
Marc was working for IBM doing contracted support work for Enron when it started to hit the skids. They actually cancelled their contract with IBM about four weeks before the story broke, saying that they were going to handle all of their IT in-house from that time forward. It's now pretty clear that they saw the writing on the wall and were trying to generate quick cash by not having to reup the contract.
