I haven't posted regularly in a bit, so I reckon I get to spam today. I'm feeling low-energy again today, as I was at the start of the week. The only thing that got me a bit better was tons of sleep and also sitting and resting, so I'm doing that plus vitamins and making sure I eat. I'd just rather skip the being sick, thanks.

Unfortunately that means I'm not going to the really cool board game party I was invited to. I feel far too exhausted to go out to Queens today. Instead, I tidied up my kitchen and the exterminator came and I need to change two light bulbs and I might clean my bathroom later. I'm really annoyed that I once again can't get groceries and will have to sub out a few things for lunch/dinner this week. But I think I can make do from the freezer with only a few substitutions.

Saw off [livejournal.com profile] applyingmyself on Wednesday night, and went to dinner last night. Worked rather late on Thursday. Work is annoying but I'm glad that I've become a lot more zen about things than I used to be. I have a client that is simply not doing their job and has been blaming me and my coworker (RockStarGuy, actually) but our boss knows better than that and is pretty angry with the client. Unfortunately all that unnecessary drama, plus battling the flu, dominated my week and I haven't been around much. What is up with you?

Are you around?

Yes! I'm on AIM and YM right now, but the only YM name that works is the one that is like my real name, yeah? and I'm around for another two hours at least.

Exterminator? WAH!

I've always wondered . . . do all apartments in NYC need exterminators? I mean, is that just par for the course?

Yes. Most buildings I've lived in have a guy come by once a month. He knocks on your door at an ungodly hour like 11 am on a saturday and yells, exterminator! and you either scramble to the door pulling on pants to let him in, or you just yell no, thanks! through the door. I prefer the latter option because it does not involve pants.

So . . . every building in NYC has pest infestation?

Well, I've never known a building in the country that didn't have ants. So I suppose I have a funny attitude about it. Every building has exterminators to keep them from having an infestation? Most of the people I know find the occasional roach in their apartment, no matter how clean they keep it or how good they are about always having the exterminator in, unless they live in a really modern building. And there are certainly mice around, as my cat has killed them in the past.

WAH!!!!

(And I note that Ruby managed a pre-emptive apology for me! How darling!)

Well, I live in an old building in a crappy neighborhood that has a management company that doesn't like to keep things up. However, I've found that nearly every building has an exterminator that comes once a month, like ours.

Lately there's been a problem in the bathroom, between the cat food and the cat's little electric fountain (bugs are attracted by the electromagnetic field) but he blasted the fuck out of the bathroom today so I'm hoping that will go away.

And as Em said, they come on Saturday mornings. Ours comes the last Saturday of the month which at the end of the year really doesn't work well as there are a lot of holiday weekends in there. So I didn't get a visit at all last month.

I think I may have shared with you that I have a phobia of cockroaches? Like, no, SERIOUSLY, a phobia . . . I was visiting a friend in NY, who lives off . . . *thinks* . . . crap, I don't remember the cross streets, but literally right at the mouth of the Lincoln Tunnel leading back to Jersey, and her apartment (which was like 1000 years old, I think) was literally crawling with roaches. I've never seen anything like that. And I felt so terrible, because she had arranged a potluck for me (coming to visit all the way from Colorado) and I ended up getting a bonafide panic attack and . . . shit, I ended up leaving. I felt so badly. But they were everywhere. Crawling up the walls, across the TV, over the table, over the food, just everywhere . . . and I realised that day that I likely wouldn't be able to live in NYC because of the phobia.

Spiders? Hell, bring 'em on. But roaches? *checks into Bellevue*

That's pretty much where I live, near the tunnel, and there have been times when it was that bad, and lately I haven't been happy. But I don't just live with it when it's that bad; I clean things up and scream for the exterminator.

That said, if the sight of one roach in your kitchen will give you a freak out, New York might not be for you. Ruby is like that and I'm not sure if she'd be able to live in Manhattan because I've never seen a place that didn't have a few every once in a while.

I know phobias are irrational fears, but yeah. I had ONE tiny roach in this one apartment I live in during college, and I slept in my Sorrel snowboots for a month, in case I had to get up during the night. WAH!

That apt was kinda cool, though, because it had royal blue and yellow carpet with a tiger-stripe pattern. Far out!

You know, I can deal with a roach here and there but I fear swarms of things (ants, etc.) so not so much with the crawling and scrambling everywhere.

*hugs Clio*

Elise has been sick too. Ear infection. :( So sorry you got the bug, sweetie.
