Meme! Drabble! Thing!
Oct. 6th, 2004 10:14 pmI post this with trepidation, as maybe no one will want to drabble off me! (Never mind that everyone is doing this meme.) But I am working a lot right now and having something to take my mind off when I take a little LJ break, as I am wont to do. I also find this interesting as I cannot, of course, write a drabble at all, because everything I write is really long. So anything that happens here is bonus!
Here are the first lines. Go ahead and drabble me in the comments, and extra points if you know which are which!
1. "Hermione?"
2. Before she came to Hogwarts, Parvati shared a bright, sunny bedroom with her twin Padma.
3. Oliver Wood walked through his front door for the first time in a week.
4. Seamus Finnigan had always thought that love stories ended with that first kiss, or at least that first tumble into the sheets.
5. [Number Five has been removed. After all, what is a meme without a mysteriously skipped number?]
6. Hermione Granger knew what she was getting herself into when she started dating Harry Potter.
7. Ginny Weasley loved cars.
8. Ronald Weasley stood near the edge of the ballroom, bored and uncomfortable.
9. "Do you mean to tell me," Remus Lupin said, "that you have reached the advanced age of twenty-five and you do not know how to play billiards properly?"
10. Hermione Potter loved her husband's arse.
11. Seamus Finnigan stood on one foot near the Portkey Arrivals area at the Ministry of Magic in Athens.
12. "Wow," Ginny said. "That was really hot."
13. "This is unbearable," Sirius muttered. "We must do something."
14. Harry Potter unlocked his front door and stepped into the spacious house, dropping his Quidditch gear in the foyer and kicking off his shoes.
15. As the front door of the old farmhouse creaked open, the owner perked up his ears.
16. Hermione Granger was dancing.

Date: 2004-10-06 08:07 pm (UTC)The slim, clean lines of his youth were gone, softened by too many jam-covered muffins and too many hours at a desk and too little time on his broom. The years had added odd little dimples and imperfections, and a fine layer of fuzz had been creeping up his legs and toward the small of his back since his early twenties. A fine, white scar dipped down from his ribs on the right side, a reminder of times they now thought about little and talked about less, except to comment on how quiet their lives had become.
When Harry got out of bed in the morning, in the time between when he left the warm sheets and when he slipped on his dressing gown, Hermione was allowed an excellent view of this southerly landscape. And more often than not she would squirm across the mattress, stretch out her arm and help herself to a handful.

Too long to be a drabble, gah
Date: 2004-10-07 07:51 am (UTC)Ron stared at her, not seeing her blush, nor the thoughtful quirk of her lips. He stared at her, but what he saw was Seamus and Dean, in the room behind them, moments before. Kissing.
“We should go, Ron,” Ginny whispered.
“What?” Ron blinked. “We can’t.” He had to stop to clear his throat. He tried to sound nonplussed, but it was difficult, when the image of Dean’s lips tugging gently at Seamus’ kept nudging foreward in his mind. “The meeting starts in ten minutes. We have to bring them.”
Ginny’s blush deepened. “Not now! They’ll know we saw!”
Ron couldn’t argue with that. If they went in now, Ginny would blush impossibly harder and Ron would stammer and stare, and Seamus and Dean would definitely know. Ginny was already backing away.
“We’ll come back, all right? I’ll meet you back here. In a little bit.” She said. Her voice trembled with a supressed giggle. “I have to find Hermione.”
Ron watched her rush away and had no idea what to do. He could go find Harry. Or, no, he could absolutely not go find Harry.
He turned back to the Transfiguration classroom, and did not think about why now was not a good time to go find Harry. Music filtered out into the hall, and Ron could see, through the barely-open door, that Dean and Seamus had turned back to their work. Seamus focused on the butter knife on the table. Ron couldn’t hear him mutter the words, but saw the flick of his wand, and saw the knife almost become a quill. Then back to a knife; then almost a quill again, and Dean laughed and Seamus told him to bugger off as he tried again.
Seamus’ grip on his wand was light, the twitch of his wrist smooth and languid. Ron could still see that same hand stroking up the side of Dean’s neck, then drifting down until his fingers pressed urgently into Dean’s shoulder as Dean kissed him.
Ron felt the cool wall beneath the palm of his hand as he swayed closer to the door. It had been really hot. And they would know, if he walked in right now. And he almost wanted them to. Because then he would have to say, how could you do it? How could you kiss your best friend? Like that? And have it be so perfect? I need to know.

Date: 2004-10-08 05:38 am (UTC)I really love the scene after the kiss, when Seamus and Dean are just working together, because it's so domestic and normal and it's like the kiss has just changed how Ron sees them interact. There's something really sexy about the way Seamus is holding his wand. And also, it isn't all about the snogging.
Haha Ginny, running off to find Hermione.
Poor Ron. I hope he gets what he wants eventually! I hope he walks right in that door, straight away!
This is so brilliant! Thank you!
