You can tell everybody this is your song
Apr. 10th, 2004 10:37 amI just realized I forgot to do an American Idol post this week. This may be because I missed half of the performance show because I was working late, though it would appear I didn't miss much.
Yes, that's right, folks, this week's theme was Elton John songs. Didn't realize he was that good a singer until you heard a bunch of kids butcher his songs, did you?
I missed Fantasia singing "Something About the Way You Look Tonight" but I saw the snippet and I don't think it was a good choice. She should have sung something more up, I think. Also, you know, don't sing the middle-aged gay man love songs if you are 20.
JPL is still getting by mainly on charm but dude, there are plenty of professional singers doing the same. Still, "Rocket Man" should have been better for him.
Someone had to do "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" and it's too bad it was Jasmine. In hindsight, that might have been what Fantasia should have done. In the flashback, it just looked, whatever.
John singing "Crocodile Rock"? I was cringing just seeing the flashback. He looked sooooo uncomfortable! Now he's starting to creep me out, man.
Of COURSE I came home just in time to see Camile sing "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" so badly that I had to sing it myself, louder, to drown her out. Just, horrid. Finally, a performance so bad that her ass is grass. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, babe.
I was hoping George would sing "Levon" but he sang "Take Me to the Pilot" which was just as good a choice and he was fantabulous. Just brilliant. He really does get better and better each week.
"I'm Still Standing" is a deceptively tough song. Really easy to go flat on the chorus, and it's such a weird note that it's hard to put a lot of power behind it. Diana didn't get too pitchy but still, it wasn't really peppy enough. Besides, that song, to many, means half naked young men and women in bosy paint cavorting on the French Riviera, and no AI performance is going to beat that video.
LaToya tackled "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" which is another toughie; the verse is in a crazy low register. She did not amazing, but well.
Then Jennifer came out and diva'd out "Circle of Life" and blew the roof off. Best performance yet.
So I don't know about you, but I'm singing ding dong the witch is dead not that Camille is gone.
Next week is Movie Music week, and Quentin will be there pushing Kill Bill II. I don't know about you all, but I am all about seeing that film baby. But since I've gone poll crazy (because I've worked out how to code them myself, go me), how about a poll for who is out next week? I'm putting it in a drop down. If you go in and then get spoiled for who is off this week, that is your own fault, I reckon.
