How much do we love [livejournal.com profile] bhanesidhe? SO MUCH!

Also, I am watching Fatal Attraction and I had forgotten what a fucked up little morsel it is. Both Anne Archer and Glenn Close have those bad late-eighties frizzy perms, and Glenn only wears black or white. She is supposed to be exciting but as far as I can tell all that is exciting about her is that she wants to fuck all the time but never in bed, she lives in the meatpacking district (in 1987!) and she knows places to salsa dance. She is obviously crazy from square one, and decides she loves him after they spend one weekend together—at the end of which she is already trying to kill herself. They not only listen to Madame Butterfly while they eat spaghetti, she also offers him tickets. I mean, how heavy handed is THAT? Oh, yeah, and we see a great deal of Michael Douglas's ass.

You know, I like my sexual politics a little more nuanced.

And Glenn has really saggy tits. Plus she looks like Mrs. Doubtfire.

This is SO TRUE. We got to see way too much of them, too. Ew.

I am not sure if my vote counts, but I have never, ever understood Close's supposed appeal in that movie. I remember it coming out and oh, the sexual politics and oh, what does this say about love in a modern age, and oh, the hubbub, bub. And then saw the fucker, finally, years later, and my main thought was, I would never have gotten into this situation, because man, I just don't think she's particularly hot.

She's hotter in the Big Chill, for heaven's sake.

But not much.

This is very true. I don't find her all that attractive. The movie supposedly was about people seeing her being able to be some femme fatale when they wouldn't have based on Big Chill and Garp, but you know, whatever.

It's heavy handed to offer tickets AFTER you've already spent the weekend in bed together? Why does that sound somehow back to front to me? Or am I just not hip?

Heavy handed becasue it was Madame Butterfly, and he's having an affair with her and she tries to commit suicide later because he's leaving her. So a heavy handed parallel.
