A few notes about that daytime activity that allows me to pay my bookie:

I know I've said this to some of you individually but I must repeat myself: do NOT get a job with a lot of travel. Business travel is the worst sort of hell. It is nothing like personal travel.
(1) You have no control over when/where you are going
(2) Even if you do go someplace interesting, you probably won't get to enjoy the place. It's airport to meeting to random hotel to meeting to airport. That's it.
(3) It's a drag. It just is. Trust me.
Tuesday night on the plane back from Atlanta I not only had an evil middle seat, but I was between two fairly good sized men. Men are space hogs, no matter their size. It's a boy thing. They spread their legs and monopolized the armrests. Also, why does the AC on planes not work until you are in the air? We didn't sit on the tarmac for too long but it was VERY hot. I thought I was going to be sick. Then I get back and there was a wait for a car to take me home.
Well, at least when I walked in the door my phone was ringing. It was my best pal S____, who was in SC for business herself. Now, S____ is one of those world traveller types. She lived in Prague for three years after we graduated from college and she has a degreee in international relations and she was in Africa for a month last fall. Even she hates business travel. Ugh.

For the last two weeks I've been working on a really interesting new project with this guy, RB, who is sort of in charge of collaborative efforts, so to speak, and is two levels above me. Completely happy to be working with him. Breath of fresh air. Have been vaguely unhappy for about nine months now, mostly with the two people directly above me, who I felt were stifling my creativity, etc. Basically, not allowing me to do my best work. Incredibly frustrating.

Well now, for various reasons I won't go into, RB is my new boss! (Did I mention that he is from the UK?) This can only be good for me. It doesn't change my decision to leave advertising for academia, but it does mean that my life will be a lot better while I'm working. The person directly above me is going out on maternity leave, so they are just going to rotate her onto something else when she returns and they've hired someone new to take her place. Hurrah! (I actually was just promoted a year ago so I wouldn't have been senior enough to move up again.)

However, the two projects I am working on with RB have taken over my life. Don't expect to see that much of me online this week, sadly. Oh, and for some reason today, my mac decided to lose the LJ cookie, so I didn't realize I wasn't logged in and couldn't see your locked posts until just now. Mostly this is because I'm a dork, but that shouldn't surprise any of you.

Oh, and why does Carrie look like a flapper? At any rate, welcome back, ladies.

So that's the RL news. HP news in next post.

Blimey! Glad to hear about the new boss. Congrats love! *does happy dance for Jen*

On the Carrie question: Why does she also happen to look like Bette Midler in two of those picts?

Waaaaaah! I'm so jealous. I want a more interesting job too. I'm glad to hear that things are looking so up for you at the moment on most fronts. It's really good to see. ::glomps J__::
