Well, Katherine Hepburn had a long and lovely life and did just as she pleased. I was obsessed with Guess Who's Coming to Dinner when I was a kid for obvious reasons, and The Philadelphia Story is still one of my favourite films ever (though I admit I identify more with Liz Imbrie).

Isn't there something very House of Usher-like about all of this? Sirius is so, so angry; I know he's reckless but it seems to me that shutting him up only makes him more restless. Dumbledore really is not a good people manager at all. I don't have a sense that he really takes advantage of people's strengths or accounts for their weaknesses, just assigns them tasks (with very little information) and trusts them to carry them out. This isn't good leadership; it isn't even good management.

Lots of nice lovely domestic bits, though why Mrs. Weasley is stuck cleaning the house when she probably could be doing something else is unclear. She certainly has nothing but anger for Sirius, and I'm not entirely sure why. Yelling at people to just suck it up generally doesn't help; they just shut up and get sullen. There's so much tension; it's like all of the adults around Harry are wound up tighter than springs, and so is Harry.

Here we also see F&G's hedonistic side. They're willing to grab any sort of substance, be it a pest like a Doxy or some Dark Magic artifact in the cabinet, for their experimentations. They are their own guinea pigs now, but we all know that won't last long.

Hermione's attitude about Kreacher is very interesting. Superficially she seems to want to be nice to him, but really she's quite condescending, thinking that he must be crazy or he wouldn't say such things, as opposed to Sirius, who, I think we can agree, knows him much better, and isn't fooled for a moment. As we'll see later, Hermione thinks she knows what is best for the elves and perhaps other magical creatures just as much as the other wizards do, while no one involved seems interested in asking them what they want.

Except, likely, for the Dark Lord, but eh. He's just going to lie to them anyway.

I found the whole Sirius house thing bizarre. To be honest, it's very close to what I had already written about Snape's house. If it were Snape's house, it would make sense but Sirius'? I don't get it. Why would someone from a home like that be friends with the likes of James Potter? Something is SO missing here - like, a reason.
