Ten years (and a few days) ago, I posted my first fic ever, the first chapter of Eight Ways from Sunday, on FictionAlley. Also, ten years ago (sometime next week) I got the code and started my livejournal. And right now, leaving out one co-authored fic, I have 200 stories posted at AO3.

I've written 200 stories in 10 years, nearly 800,000 words in total. So you'll allow a ridiculous chart or four, right?

I've written in 25 different canons, but I've really only considered myself a part of four fandoms: Harry Potter, American Idol, Star Trek, and now Avengers. Of those, I've only really left one, Idol, for which I really never plan to write any new fic. But jeez, look at how much I did write:

Quite a lot for a ship that, other than my lovely s6 Cake times and my not-so-bad s7 times, was ignored, hated, or ruthlessly shunted aside. I don't think Idol fandom really exists anymore, for a lot of reasons I won't go into, and of course my ship has gone back underground (which I'm actually okay about). Idol taught me to love an AU and I wrote five historical ones in that fandom--20s, 40s, 60s, 80s and 90s. I wrote my final wish-fulfillment fic for the rpf bb in 2010, and that was a great goodbye.

Most of this fic came from setting myself ridiculous goals, so here's my HP-centered one: get that word count higher than Idol! I have three P/P fics and 43 S/D fics (finishing my S/D ff100 claim) to get to about 85,000 words, and no real time limit. Why not? After all, I got myself to finally finish the EWFS sequel after years of dithering by setting a date of the final movie.

Trek will only grow when the new movie shows up. I'm in the middle of writing some Chapel/Rand for a bb, and then to be honest I might take a little break (other than space married, of course). I think 35,000 or so total words is not bad for a year, and that will leave me the energy to do mixes for this year's STBB, something I've wanted to do for a while.

Plus I have a pile of other things demanding to be written right now--quite a diverse list in fact! The thing that's really evolved over these years is that I've become solidly multifannish:

Other than a Furuba drabble, the first non-HP fic I wrote was my first Idol fic! That grew, of course, and then Trek came along and that grew, but HP only went away briefly and I always had plans to finish up what I'd started in HP. And look at all that I wrote this year! So believe me when I say: I'm not going anyplace, Trek fandom, even if I do take a little writing break. Multifannishness exists, at least for me!

Now, my overall writing skews to male slash, mostly because what I've written for both Idol and Trek has been dominated by one slash ship. This isn't what I did in HP fandom though:

I have three P/P fics planned which hopefully will bring them to parity with H/H and D/G. And S/D will continue to grow as I do have all that S/D ff100 to write. But I think this is why I never think of myself as being just another white boy slasher, however much white boy slash I've actually written.

Avengers is new, only six stories so far:

Start as you mean to go on, yeah? These are the Avenger ships o' my heart, and the AUs I'm planning will definitely center around them; I BFF Clint and Natasha like nobody's business, and of course Phil and Pepper are pals too, so they're like, the awesomest OT4. And the Natasha/Pepper fics have gotten more feedback than I ever would have expected!

I'll need to get my PoC's in other places, but that's okay. There's Diana Berrigan and Mercedes Jones and Shirley Bennett and Yusuf and probably more from canons I haven't even thought about yet.

I'm pretty proud of what I've written, I have to admit. And I have more goals for the future than ever before. It's nice to take a step back and remind yourself that all these things you write, they aren't for nothing, even when there aren't tons of people watching.
