hp look back: pre-EWFS

jlhI wrote three stories set during Harry's fourth and fifth year. All of my HP stories are GoF canon, though occasionally there are references to characters that were introduced in later books, the actual events are much changed. EWFS is set in sixth year, but of course I had to work out what their fifth year had been to do that, so that's really where this little 'verse I've created branches off into being an in-universe alternate reality.
Or, the White Whale: Seamus/Dean, R, 1600 words. The night before the Quidditch World Cup, Seamus is so hyper Dean doesn't think they'll ever get to sleep. But Seamus, as usual, has An Idea.

"Or, the White Whale" was written in mid-2006, around the time of the FIFA World Cup, which got me thinking about the Quidditch World Cup in GoF and Dean staying with Seamus's family in their tent covered with shamrocks. As a prequel of sorts to Eight Ways from Sunday, it's the only story I've written that I'd really call "pre-slash". It's clear in the story that Seamus and Dean will be together at some point, though they don't even have crushes on each other yet and don't interact with each other sexually. The title of the story is the second title of Moby Dick, and I was thinking about Ishmael and Queequeg a lot while I was writing it. Not just because of their obvious physical resemblance, but also because Melville's characters have the same kind of deep almost wordless connection that Seamus and Dean have.
The boys are 14 here (hence the underage warning) and have a discussion about homosexuality after watching a little porn late at night. It's my story where they're their most boyish, and probably the closest to canon. Originally the story was NC-17 and the sex more explicit, but I'd done an R edit for Fiction Alley and between the strikethrough crisis on LJ and the underage issues at Skyehawke decided to go with the R edit everywhere. Now I like the edited version better.
Myopia: Percy/Oliver, NC-17, 3500 words. Percy knows how this had to end. For Oliver it takes a bit longer.

"Myopia" is the second story I wrote about Percy and Oliver but it takes place first, the story of how they got together during their first year out of Hogwarts, which is Harry's fourth year. I was experimenting with form, so there's a flashback in Percy's POV that works backward in time, while the main narrative is in Oliver's POV and moves forward. It's a little gimmicky but I think it works pretty well, showing them realizing the difference between what they thought they were doing and what they really had been doing all along.
We Three: Remus/Sirius, NC-17, 2900 words. Remus presumed he'd be the teacher but in the end he was the student.

"We Three" was written for the SBRL FQF, where my challenge was Harry comes to stay with Sirius and Remus over the summer. Obviously the challenge, like EWFS, was pre-OotP canon, and a lot of Sirius/Remus writers played around with the idea of Harry eventually being able to live with his godfather and how that would look.
While this is an NC-17 fic, it is not a threesome fic. It's about how Sirius and Remus adapt to Harry being with them, and become a little more open about their relationship. How Harry came to live with them in the summer after his 5th year is more fully explained at the beginning of EWFS chapter 2, but all you really need to know is that there was a trial, and Sirius was cleared. Technically this story is set within EWFS, between chapters 1 & 2.
