this week in tv
Dec. 3rd, 2010 10:48 amI have a horrible cold and plan to spend the weekend mostly in bed reading space wrapped fic. Anyway this week there were no Monday shows. Two more weeks and then it's the holiday break with sporadic episodes until February.
Glee: The tie was weird because I didn't feel like the Warblers really lived up to their potential. Of course part of this might be that I'm not a fan of "Hey Soul Sister" but the arrangement for "Teenage Dream" was so much more inspired. Also the metaphor of Kurt and the canary hit me over the head a little.
I really loved Puck this week and his reaction to spending 7 minutes in heaven with wrestler girl. It's stuff like this that makes people write him realistically slashy. I don't really care that much about Finn and Rachel anyway (though the Rachel-Kurt friendship stuff was great and exactly as I'd imagined: once they weren't competing, they could be friendly) and Emma seems truly happy with John Stamos. I wish Tina would stop creating drama, but I think she's just like that.
For me, the episode was completely made by the "Dog Days Are Over" number at the end, not only because yay Tina and Mercedes, but also because I love that song and thought they did a good job with it.
Top Chef All Stars: This season is going to be rough because as Gail Simmons said in EW, every elimination is going to hurt. I really loved the two challenges and look forward to the little references to the past in each episode. Also it's just fun to see Fabio on my TV set again. But Blais has to be my sentimental favorite; he and Jen are really the ones I want to see at the top. I was also excited to see Dale overcome the butterscotch scallops; his ouster was one of those beat-up-by-restaurant-wars departures. I wish Elia hadn't gone out, and it had been Steven, but you can't always get what you want.
Community: I loved it. LOVED IT. I'll have to watch it again to really absorb it, because the episode did take a turn for the serious at the end, but wow, wow, wow. So rich and unexpected, especially as it could have been a throwaway episode while everyone waits for claymation Xmas next week. I'm not a big shipper for this show but I really loved the entire Jeff-Britta ridiculousness leading to making out in the car, especially when Troy expressed his disappointment in them and they unashamedly copped to not being more mature than he is, and Jeff saying, "you're a man now." And Shirley, god, I don't even know what to say, but it's so Shirley that even in the middle of her freakout she helped Pierce, because he finally admitted that he needed help. And Annie trying on a new persona and having mysteriously moved out into a crappy little apartment! (I'll have to watch the first ep of the season again to see where she seems to be waking up.) And Abed ignoring the sexual overtures because he wanted to talk about Farscape! And surprise Paul F Thompkins! And Troy becoming a man! LOVED IT.
