I keep getting behind because I often don't watch everything until Friday, and no one reads LJ over the weekend, and then it's Monday again. So: this post does not include discussion of shows that aired last night.

HIMYM: I am loving the Robin character development this season! Barney is more obviously in need of growth (as is Ted) but Robin has piles of weird daddy issues (hot) that she needs to sort through. I also very much enjoyed Ted and Barney's very different reactions to Robin's hyper independence, where Ted was put off by Robin's independence while Barney adores it hard core. That entire little scene felt to me like another little moment of the show indicating that they aren't done with Barney/Robin--HIMYM, like a good romance, tends to show us why and how certain couples work and don't work. I also liked how Ted and Barney had different reactions to the whole girl-woman man-boy idea, where Ted wants to take care of the girl-woman while Barney wants to take advantage of her. Though even Ted has his limits.

Castle: Generally, I don't care for serial killers, but what I did like about this episode is a way that Castle once again shows that it's not CSI, in that while yes, the serial killer was a man killing women, it wasn't sexual; he wasn't raping them or mutilating them in some titilating way. And none of the women were being punished for having sex, thank goodness. I did adore the ending as well; Castle has to learn when he should STFU, not monologue about what he's just figured out. And he hates failing so, so much; Beckett comforting him there was lovely, as he so often comforts and encourages her when she's reached an impasse. Also I loved that of course the picture of his mother on his phone is of her like, 30 years ago, and just says "Home."

Hawaii 5-0: I'm still enjoying this show, despite its missteps into weirdo police state bullshit, but then I expect that from all action cop shows. The plot was kinda silly, but at least Kono was in a swimsuit for a reason, and only at the beach, and didn't have to be a decoy at any point. (That said, I don't think they actually do that with her as often as other shows might.)

Dancing with the Stars: Pretty unsurprised that Audrina went out. Yes, she danced well, but she didn't make anyone care, and it wasn't just oh, she's a pretty young girl. Everyone who comes on the show has to make me care. It's just that pretty young girls are used to the world caring ... because they're pretty and young. They're not used to having to try, or having to have a personality. (Ah, misogyny and the beauty culture, it traps all of us.) And the 40ish ladies who come on the show are often older pretty young girls, who are only starting to get the hang of the whole personality thing, and maybe had too much surgery, and they had some kids and don't know how to move their body anymore. Note that Jennifer Grey was never a pretty young girl; she was a cutie, which is different. She's used to endearing herself, and she's doing a great job of seeming like her cute young self but also feeling like she's age-appropriate; her cuteness isn't innocent or girlish but just part of who she is.

Glee is getting its own post later today, because I have way too much to say.

Top Chef Just Desserts: See, the top team always gets complacent at Restaurant Wars, and that's how you get the surprising elimination at the midpoint. QED. I wish Erica was still there rather than Danielle, but otherwise I got no issues. And it was an enjoyable episode to watch, and to compare the willingness of most of these pastry chefs to being in front of the house with the complete freak out of most of the savory chefs to being there. Also, they took on making a bread item pretty easily, while dessert for the chefs is always a drama.

Community: OMG LOL. I mean, what a fantastic episode and I don't even like zombies. Pierce as Kirk (“Whoa, hey, if you get any more sweaty and puffy, your costume’s gonna reach new levels of authenticity”); Annie playing innocent and then looking hilariously goth as a zombie; Abed and Troy's whole nerd freakout/relationship discussion/love declaration (that they won't remember); the doctor from the pottery class showing up as a banana; Jeff dressing up as a slightly different handsome guy and feeding hand-impaired dragon-turtle Britta (so adorable).

As for Shirley and Chang: 1, omg sex in the bathroom; 2, on the costumes, I never thought Shirley looked like Miss Piggy, and Chang the Peggy Flemming reference is super old ('68 Olympics, hello) but I get the whole racist costume thing because it's definitely a big part of my own personal Halloween freak out.

Project Runway: Ugh.
