this week in tv
Oct. 24th, 2010 09:32 pmFirst, since the posts were made earlier and then unlocked, my
startrekbigbang fic is posted here on DW and here on LJ! Hurray! I'm really proud of it and hope people like it.
This week in tv, not so much with the joy.
HIMYM: Ugh, that was just awful from beginning to end. Every character looked bad and then didn't even need the gross transphobia to do it. The only slightly good bit was the implication that later in life, Marshall will be the old guy who lets it all hang out.
Dancing with the Stars: Ugh, what a lame theme this week, eh? Especially since all the people who were actually on a TV show had to dance to their own theme. Only ray of light: that the Hoff wasn't still around to dance a paso to the Knight Rider theme. Florence Henderson is a class act, though.
Castle: Super cute! I loved the really twisty mystery this week, and Ryan's "oh now he's going to be mad at me" moment, and Castle convincing Beckett to help the jailbirds and then, yes, assuring Castle that she'd get him out of jail if it came to that.
Hawaii 5-0: So admittedly I didn't watch this until tonight, but I'm glad I didn't because not totally ugh but kind of ugh? I mean, at least when they busted the forced prostitution ring they didn't imply that you know, girls shouldn't be going out to clubs. And there weren't any grisly sexualized murders. But there was evil Coach Tanaka and a whole political thing. (Oh, yeah, this show is SOOOOOO right wing with that whole "some fringe elements don't appreciate everything the US has done for the Philippines" wtf. That said, it's seriously no worse than Covert Affairs.) Small victories?
No Glee. Which is just as well as I don't actually have Fox on my cable system right now.
Top Chef Masters: Ugh, like, I don't care about Heather and her drama and her need to blame everyone around her for shit. Also the black and white challenge was kind of annoying. I'm hugely irritable that Erica is out because now other than Eric there's no one left to root for. Morgan is an ass; Danielle is a nonentity; Team Go Diva get more irritating in every episode. I'm annoyed because I really do like the set up of the show. GAH!
Community: omfg this show restored my faith in humanity and all good things. It wasn't just Jeff-as-dad ("Go. Wait. In. The. Car!) but also Britta-as-mom ("They've got you all riled up!). And then Shirley and her baseball bat of righteousness and her theme music. And the Dean pointing out the resurrection of Spock. And Abed realizing that his movie is self-indulgent adolescent crap. And Troy rapping. And Annie constantly tattling on everyone. I watched it a thousand times.
Project Runway: Well, didn't we all know this was going to happen? I hope that Michael can get past the "I'll show you" period with his parents to the "whatever with you" period. But I know from experience that it takes a while. Other than that: Mondo. I just want Mondo around all the time. And omg Andy and his fish farm childhood!

Date: 2010-10-25 11:30 am (UTC)I was sort of dismayed by the people calling it out on twitter who basically never talk about it? I'm growing more and more frustrated with this culture of calling out fail and never giving out praise, or calling out fail on shows that are mostly not fail-y but not calling out fail on shows that are an enormous mess, such that those shows get a pass (like, say, the torture and weird racism on 24 or the misogyny on most police procedurals). It would make me sad that the only time people think about HIMYM they think "Oh yeah that transphobic show" because that's all they heard about it, while no one says anything much about the weird jingoism of Covert Affairs.
