I am listening to a-ha while editing, as I often do, because they are melodic enough to motivate me but unobtrusive enough not to distract me. I just heard "Blue Skies" and there is this line: "I'm too young to take on my deepest fears" and I thought, not only am I not too young, but I have already started doing it and am well on my way. So the last decade hasn't been a complete waste. Good to know.

More lists from Spin magazine, dedicated to [livejournal.com profile] thezeppo:

Five cover songs so bad they totally destroy the originals:
1. Madonna, American Pie (Don MacLean)
2. Limp Bizkit, "Faith" (George Michael)
3. Britney Spears, "I Love Rock n Roll" (Joan Jett)
4. Guns N Roses, "Sympathy for the Devil" (Rolling Stones)
5. The Police, "Don't Stand So Close to Me '86" (The Police)

Five cover songs so good they (almost) destroy the originals:
1. Jimi Hendrix, "All Along the Watchtower" (Bob Dylan)
2. Soft Cell, "Tainted Love" (Gloria Jones)
3. Devo, "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" (Rolling Stones)
4. Quiet Riot, "Cum on Feel the Noize" (Slade)
5. Cake, "I Will Survive" (Gloria Gaynor)

And my own weekend list:
1. Get dress for wedding--tomorrow, with critic [livejournal.com profile] epicyclical
2. Edit now-finished wifeswapping fic
3. Make mac & cheese for lunch this week
4. Get cases so I can send [livejournal.com profile] queerasjohn the rest of his Christmas present (finally).
5. Get wedding present: Enormo pan that is also Christmas present
6. Work on outline of sequel--The entire Draco/Ginny story arc came to me this afternoon, and none too soon
7. Take care of some financial stuff--happening Monday

Am seeing the last of my Oscar movies tomorrow with the ever-lovely [livejournal.com profile] gehenna1. And let me tell you, she is the reason that I have been so incredibly functional despite tons of RL issues. She is a good friend and we are lucky to have her. MUAH!

The G'n'R cover of "Sympathy for the Devil" is much better than the Rolling Stones version... Though I might be slightly biased in only hearing the original once (on the radio I think) - I haven't listened to either in ages
