mahoni and hey, work is slow and when you're editing you need lots of breaks, right? I was going to do the icon meme she did but I hate "favorites" questions. I am large, okay? I contain fucking multitudes.
first: if you've been tagged, you must write your answers in your own LJ and replace any question that you dislike with a new, original question.
Note: I did this. Twice.
second: tag eight sexy people. don't refuse to do that like a pansy. unless you really don't want to of course. and if you're not tagged and you want to do it, then do!
This reminds me of "The Bird" where Morris Day says, "This dance ain't for everybody. Just the sexy people." Well, I think you are all sexy, and should do this meme if you choose to.
(ETA: Forgot the link to the X and Hen story. Thanks Kitty!)
Favourite song right now?
Someone recently sent me a song they wrote, so that's pretty much my favorite right now because it fills me with glee. GLEE. And soon you will all know why.
What are you reading right now?
I'm finishing a reread of Jane Austen's Persuasion and then I'm starting The Circular Staircase by Mary Roberts Rinehart.
Three things that are super-annoying at the moment?
1. Not being in school this year. Next fall, hopefully!
2. How hurry-up-and-wait this job is.
3. The shitty plumbing in our bathroom.
Three random facts about yourself?
1. I prefer walking thorugh the park in a light rain to walking when it's sunny out.
2. I don't care for scallops.
3. I'm a contralto.
What was your first ship?
X the Owl/Henrietta Pussycat. Here's the story I got for them at Yuletide.
One thing that scares you?
People with fear in their eyes.
Three things you wish you could be:
1. A grad student (again).
2. An professor (someday).
3. Something else too personal to say here.
Top five words/phrases you use?
1. I don't even
2. What does that even mean?
3. Awesome sauce
4. Wanna X? Of course you do.
5. I feel badly ...
Two things you're excited for this year?
1. Making money!
2. Seeing people because I have enough money to leave town!
Your favorite ice cream flavour?
Red raspberry. Failing that, black raspberry. Failing that, butter brickle. But I don't eat much ice cream anymore. Thanks, lactose intolerance!
Guiltiest pleasure movie?
I don't believe in guilty pleasures. If you want the "I know it's not actually very good and has a ridic plot and often clunky dialogue but I love it like burning and have seen it too many times to count" movie, that would probably be Center Stage though I also enjoy Goodbye, Charlie. However I refuse to feel guilty for that.
What movie have you seen the most?
Probably The Philadelphia Story because I wrote two undergrad and one grad school paper for it, plus a Yuletide fic, and that requires a lot of watching over and over and over again. And it can stand up to that, let me tell you.
What is seriously awesome?
In response to last week's MoonFail (here's the SFdrama post; mostly, an SF-F author who's a guest of honor at WisCon made a post about how while some Muslims are actually civilized (!), Park51 should still be stopped), the November issue of Apex will be an entirely Arabic/Muslim issue. The editor says in part:
I am looking for material, but most especially poetry, from Muslim authors and authors of Arabic descent. Let's make it easy: if you think you might "count," then you do. Southeast Asian Muslims, yes. American Muslims, yes. Anybody with a connection to the cultures of Islam, yes. The subject of your works can be anything you like, but I am only looking for authors with connections to Islam and/or the Arabic world. Please do not send reprints, we have that covered.
I know that covers some of you reading this post! I hope you'll be able to contribute.
Worst movie you've ever seen?
Phone Booth, easily. A suspense movie made by people who seemed to have no sense of why anyone watches a suspense movie and the payoff really sucked.
Best way to relax?
Reading a book with the cat on my lap.
Favourite quote/lyric?
I was just saying the other night that I have two favorite rock lyrics of all time:
"I shot my mouth off and you showed me what that hole is for."
"But he cannot be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me."
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter?
Autumn! Autumn Autumn Autumn!
Last album you bought/downloaded?
Hurts, Happiness
Name two items nearest to you.
Computer, phone. (I'm at work, this is boring.)
Say something to the person who tagged you:
Happy to see you writing, bb!
Last pair of shoes you bought?
Black rainboots with multicolored polka dots, or maybe some brown flip flops for going back and forth to the pool in FL.

Date: 2010-09-20 07:43 pm (UTC)Also I love Augie, and Peter Gallagher in anything, ever.
I found some of the stuff in the final eps leading to the finale to be sort of obvious? Like, who didn't know who the leak was? And is there anything interesting or at stake about who the leak is? Not so much. I thought the Ben-Jai interactions were intriguingly slashy, which is fine with me as I don't ship Annie with either of them and I'm not sure how much she does either. There were some overarching plot points that I found predictable, which disappointed me because it's not like I'm a huge spy show fan and thus have seen everything. Like, Ben's actions at the end felt like a typical "game-changing, stakes-raising" sort of plot.
I think their plots need to get better, and unfortunately unlike White Collar (which also suffers from not-great plots, and seriously does not pass Bechdel, so I'm just waiting for El to be properly back so she might actually have a conversation with Diana) it can't coast on the chemistry of its leads mostly because Annie is so often in the field. I'll definitely watch it when it returns in January--I assume that like White Collar we've only seen half the season--but nothing compels me to watch it, you know?

Date: 2010-09-20 08:33 pm (UTC)At first I was kind of squinting at how Joan and her husband's relationship came across, that was mostly due to the whole 'are you cheating' thing, but their storyline has settled into something I can get with. I do like how, overall, Joan carries herself. The show doesn't try to make it seem that she's treated the same way as the other men at a similar level in the agency but they leave a lot of it unsaid.
I also appreciate how they're not showing the reporter woman as complete evil, too.
Their plots do need some service, but as long as there isn't any major competition for their timeslot, I imagine they will be okay.
I tried to do White Collar but I couldn't stick with it.
