Just realized I forgot to post this on Thursday. Finales of HIMYM, and DwtS. Two more weeks of Justified and Glee (and Top Chef Masters) and we're outta here.

HIMYM, "Doppelgangers." I really loved it. I loved Ted dying his hair blond and knowing all the ladies in the beauty salon (and getting a manicure). I loved how Robin chose love, but did it independently instead of, I dunno, discussing it with her boyfriend. I loved how Marshall and Lily insisted on ridiculous omens from the universe but in the end made up their own minds. I loved how Barney talked a good game, but wanted them to have a kid—just like he went to San Francisco and told Lily to come back to New York. I particularly loved Ted's speech at the end about how they are their own doppelgangers. It's funny, because most of the bitching about the show this season has been that the characters have become shells of their former selves. I agree that this season has had some missteps, but no more I think than season 4 certainly, or season 2. I know we didn't get any movement on the mother in the finale, and that might push some people out of the show for good as well, but I was weirdly okay with that. I don't want to become some HIMYM apologist, and I may well not mention this show any longer on this journal, but I will be watching season 6.

DwtS was, you know, fine. I thought Erin and Maks deserved better than third place, but I'm meanly glad that Lysacek didn't win. And man, when the first person to come out to Derek and Nicole was Mark Ballas, who immediately put Derek on his shoulders? Boyfriends, people.

Glee, "Theatricality." "Bad Romance" was lovely, especially with all the girls (save Brittany; have we heard her sing?) sharing the lead. Nice key moments for Tina and Santana. Also a great plot for Tina; she's really coming out of her shell and that's fun to watch—and fun to see Kurt interact with someone other than Finn or Mercedes. [personal profile] sistermagpie said that she felt more sad for Finn when Burt was yelling at him than glad for Kurt, and I understood that though Burt strikes me as such a papa bear that he'd be shouting no matter what someone was harshing on Kurt about. I'm not all that invested in Rachel and her mother, no matter how many Broadway classics they sing at each other. But the most adorable moment for me, aside from Tina scaring the principal, was the boys showing how much research they'd done into which guy from Kiss they should be. Puck the romantic indeed—which paid off later; as soon as he walked into the room I said to [personal profile] evil_erato, "He's going to sing Beth, isn't he."

Justified, "Veterans." Words are not sufficient. This show is suspenseful and hilarious, with amazing writing and acting, and it almost doesn't matter what actually happens in any particular episode. I mean, when your lead character reacts to his asshole father slapping him across the face with, "Now Arlo, use your words" you know you're in good hands. The characters are all rich and interesting and given a great deal to do but man, Olyphant just rules me.

Top Chef Masters, "Food of the Gods." Didn't think it was a particularly good episode, and was disappointed to see Susan go. Now I'm left vaguely rooting for Jonathan, who seems to think he's going home every week. Eh, two more weeks, and hopefully a finale as thematically interesting as last year. I will say that the structure of the show this year was better than last year, at least.
