So about last night: I know I'm a Ryan fan, but I'm blaming that one on the producers. The show of 8 is always super tight, as we pull down to an hour. So why did we have two coca-cola moments and sizeable packages for all the singers? And why do I have a feeling that they are not taking into account that we have one more judge to listen to? Ryan can do many things, but he cannot shave seven minutes off a show.

Back to tonight, because seriously, this judges' save thing is going to give Ryan a heart attack. But first: why was Randy wearing a couch? Why was Paula dressed like a flapper?

OMG Frankie Avalon! He's had work done since the last time I saw him and looks trim and happy and sounded fantastic. Great get by Ryan. He's threatened to get a countdown clock billboard for Simon's birthday and I hope he does. Simon looked genuinely pleased, too, but I'm not sure why he's surprised to realize that Ryan looks like a teen idol from the 50s. (The #1 song when I was born, btw, was "Honky Tonk Woman.")

Then there was that hot mess of a group number. I mean, it was awesome—and I'm sure the fangirls will do a lot with Adam singing "there's a dark secret in me"—but there were a lot of people on that stage who didn't really know what they were singing. Kris looked game, but mostly confused. Allison actually managed to make it her own. Matt was like, "I am okay with being gay for this song." Lil is mysteriously singing some other song entirely, and is dressed like a Romulan. Anoop has sung this song many times, but only ironically, and maintains that pose here. Danny is more than happy to take a back seat on this shit. Scott has no idea what is actually going on. And then Adam, of course, is like, "I can do the original choreography from the video! No? Oh, okay!" I kept watching it over and over, and then strangely liking it more and more, mostly because it had that crucial element that all good-bad group numbers from the Sonny and Cher Variety Hour had: people singing a variety of popular song that they had no business singing.

And then we have the carnival/circus/magic show P!atD video, where everyone has one glitter eye for some reason, and this is where I say that I'm really entranced with Allison and Adam getting paired up here and in the end of the group number, and if I were writing s8 singerfic I would be all about their dynamic. And while Anoop didn't own it, I liked his glitter!

I have nothing whatsoever to say about Flo Rida or the Pickler.

So the announcements of who was in the bottom three were a series of near misses for me. Yay not Kris, yay not Matt, yay not Allison. Since I was watching DialIdol, I wasn't surprised when Lil was the first one saved—I think her fans got scared and voted. And I do think they would have saved Anoop, because he was actually good last night. But I'm glad that it was Scott.

I had forgotten that they only had three chances to save left, but I still wonder why there was so much damned debate about Scott, because when he sang again it was even worse. I'm excited that Simon is all "lo, for I am the head judge" this year and just made a damned decision already. You know that Ryan was pleading with him with his eyes like a pleading thing to not let the show go over AGAIN. At least we only have two more weeks of this shit.

Since I don't watch Idol, I'm terribly intrigued by what group number they sang, since you don't mention it. So, care to share?

They sang "Can't Get You Out of My Head" because it was from 2002, the year Idol was "born." And yeah, it was pretty much a mess.

I also blame the judges. They tend to ramble on a lot longer than they should. And now there is four of them.

But I think it's the fault of scheduling. They needed more than sixty minutes for 8 singers/four critiques apiece.
