Wednesday is for reality again
Feb. 19th, 2009 11:01 amBut only for two weeks, as Top Chef is almost done.
American Idol: I came home toward the end of the show and I am not that enthralled by Idol results shows in any case, so I really only saw the Danny-Tatiana thing live, but I watched the rest this morning.
Haha, Ryan's being such a troublemaker. I heart Ryan-Kara long time, and I'm wondering where the Kara/Paula slash is, please.
OMG I LOVE THE GROUP SINGS. It's the moment when the show suddenly becomes an awesome 70s variety show. (Remember how Cook totally embraced the cheesy group sings?) Alexis looks adorable in that hat.
Marly! How adorable are they? Seriously, there was suddenly all this het on
idolslash because of them. I want them to be like, Marvin Gaye and Tammie Terrell, only without the whole brain tumor thing.
As usual the actual results are sort of tedious, but Tatiana's inability to deal was PRICELESS. It wasn't that she was crying—everyone cries, whatever, being kicked off of Idol is definitely worthy of tears—but that she wasn't having any of it, refused to be touched by anyone except Danny really, and stood there scowling during Danny's singout. (Speaking of which, his friend or whatever holding up the pic of Danny and his wife was just creepy.) It's just always all about Tatiana for her, which I find tiresome. I really hope that the judges don't bring her back for wild card, but you never know because she did sing well.
I think they will bring back Anoop, though. I certainly hope so.
Idol is on Wednesday-Thursday next week because Tuesday Obama is giving a State of the Union address. The week after, Idol is Tuesday-Wednesday, and then Thursday for the wild card/final results.
Top Chef: I'm a big fan of Jeff, so I'm super pleased that he was able to come back, if only briefly, because he was so upset when he was eliminated, and I think this revisit enabled him to feel better about how he did in the competition. And I think he should feel good, because he acquitted himself very well. I'm still voting for him for fan favorite, even though I'm pretty sure the prize will (and should) go to either Fabio or Carla.
I find it interesting that they didn't bring back Radhika or Arianne, and wonder why they drew their line at the top seven. Radhika certainly had a lot of wins, and did well through the competition. I wonder if it was just judges' discretion? When they did a similar thing on PR3 they simply brought back everyone who had won a challenge.
Anyway, I'm also thrilled that Carla won, and I'm glad that Stefan got a kick in the ass about his complacence, because when he's complacent he performs badly, and he's had two bad challenges in a row. It can only help him to be shaken up a bit, and to take Carla seriously as a challenger. For his sake I hope he doesn't do it again.
Also, there was a buzz on the blogs that Hosea wasn't in the top because he spent time during that week in NOLA on the blogs defending his behavior with Leah (that was the episode airing at the time). Clearly that was an erroneous conclusion. I'm not all that interested in Hosea because as Arianne said, he's a wimp.
Next week will be very exciting!

Date: 2009-02-19 04:16 pm (UTC)I was sad that Jeff didn't win to get back in the competition but I couldn't help but root for Carla. She did a damn good job, so there was no shame in losing to her.

Date: 2009-02-19 04:25 pm (UTC)And Brent was sort of screwed because he hadn't been heavily featured in Hollywood week.
I was sad too, but Jeff seemed so much happier that I was mostly glad that he even came back! And you're right, he was okay with losing to Carla. Carla is the awesome sauce!

Date: 2009-02-19 05:17 pm (UTC)Anoop graduated from UNC for undergrad last year, and is currently a master's student here. He was the president of the most popular a cappella group on campus (this group is seriously amazing), and so I've seen him in concert and he is wonderful. I don't really watch AI but the entire campus is frantically following it this season because of him...so yeah, I really really REALLY hope they bring him back.

Date: 2009-02-19 11:06 pm (UTC)I love the cheesiness of Idol group sings, but not to that song. Another song I don't want to hear done by one person on Idol, much less 12. I adore the Marly, especially last night! I believe they call themselves The Captain and McNeil. They need to stop with the dead wife thing with Danny: I get it, she's dead, but I'd like to actually base my opinion on him with talent, thanks. I certainly think they'll bring back Anoop, he has an enormous fanbase but he needs to do something more contemporary and more upbeat. I will not use my Brent icon because it makes me sad now, haha.
I think fan favorite should go to Fabio, just because everyone's quoting their own little version of "It's Top Chef, not Top Scallop!" around the Inernets these days. I think Jeff was eliminated unfairly the last time and this was a resolution of sorts for him, he made amazing dishes and he got a slew of compliments on them; Carla just, as she has for a while now, has put more of her soul into her food and the judges eat that up. I'm all for a Carla and Stefan final two, because Hosea bores me and is a whiner. He was talking about how awkward Leah was back in the beginning and I thought, dude, NO ONE CARES. I don't care. Leah probably could give a shit about your ass. The only one making this drama is YOU. For the whole shebang, I think Stefan will win if he doesn't think he's going to win. It would be epic, however, if Carla wins.

Date: 2009-02-20 02:50 am (UTC)It's too bad Anoop was on a show with such strong boys, it's true.

Date: 2009-02-20 02:51 am (UTC)I dunno, one thing I liked about them singing that song was that the song is so vocally complex that it made for an interesting arrangement even though it got pretty cheese-tastic.
Did you see everyone ragging on Hosea and Leah on fandom secrets today? Hilarious!

Date: 2009-02-20 03:30 am (UTC)Luckily, I quite thoroughly don't care about next week's lineup because I'm going to be out Wednesday night (had scheduled something thinking it'd be a results show again, but really not sad it's not.)

Date: 2009-02-20 11:34 pm (UTC)Yes, so much depends on what group you're put with. But I think there's at least a good chance he'll be back.
