Ha! Private Lives
Jun. 14th, 2002 09:00 pmI wanted to write this last night while it was all still fresh in my mind, but I was way too loopy. (See
eccentricfemme's entry for more details.) So:
Last night I went to see Private Lives, the Noel Coward play starring Alan Rickman that is currently running on Broadway here in NYC. I was given the tickets by a business associate, so I didn't realize we would be in the FRONT ROW until we arrived at the theater. Um, did I say front row? I meant FRONT ROW CENTER.
It was very well done, very very funny, and everyone's timing and tone was spot on, which is very important for this sort of comic play. It was nice to see AR with his own hair. Period dictated that he wore a great many double-breasted suits, which was too bad because I fear he is a little short for them. However, he spent all of Act II in silk pajamas and a dressing gown (said dressing gown providing the only Snape-y moments, as he was running about the set and the thing would billow out behind him). I can say with conviction that AR has exquisite feet.
No Snape-yness whatsoever in this character, and I do not blame him in the slightest. If you were doing Snape, wouldn't you do a Noel Coward drawing room sex comedy in your off hours?
Oh, and yeah, he looks GREAT. And I'm not an AR freak by any means: I could care less about Snape as a general rule; I hated Truly Madly Deeply--need I go on? However, he did play the character to whom one of my favorite lines in film is directed (that line being, of course, "Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!").
A thoroughly enjoyable evening, and if you can go, do go.
Now, on to more important things, like quizzes:

You are interested in 2 things in this world: Love and sex. You are a complete romantic (and probably a big whore.) You just want to be loved.
I'm an aaahhhtist. Of course, C____ hates Bowie and thinks he ruined Iggy.
Which Trickster are you?

I have declined on the MS OS test, as I am on a Mac, baby!

You really value your friends and your family, but more than anything, you value your boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/person you are stalking.
You don't necessarily value yourself very much, but it's ok because you will find someone else to value you. Sad, but you're oblivious, so it doesn't matter.

Those who have read chapter 7 of EWFS are unsurprised. I am jubilant.

B'rer Rabbit is the quintessential American trickster, and like him you possess a sort of folksy, innate wisdom. Seldom if ever mean-spirited, you bounce through life with a good-natured, down-home positive attitude but the crafty old foxes of this world don't fool you. This is fortunate because you can be naive and that leads you into trouble if you don't watch the road. . |
