To keep my mind off other things, I am not-really live blogging SYTYCD! Lucky you!
As for our friend Project Runway, it's great to have Tim and Heidi back no matter what. It was also fun to go back to that very first Gristede's challenge, and awesome to see Tim call them all out for using tablecloths. That Jerry was a total pompous ass so I was really pleased to see him out first. Kelli was adorable, so I was happy she won, but I also liked Jarrell. I could do without Blayne and his tan, but he seems harmless so far. Also: OMG Austin Scarlett! How fabulous! I wonder if he's ever been in a room with Christian and what they made of each other?
- Opening: I don't get Cat's dress with the "arrows to my girly bits" tucking in the skirt. It makes her look like she has a tummy, when Cat has like, a sick body. Even though she can't dress it.
- I was spoiled for the Jessica thing, and I have to say: whatever. I'm not a fan of Comfort either.
- Why is Nigel wearing a denim work shirt? I mean, it's a good color for him, but it's weird—like, now that he isn't kicking people off he isn't bothering to dress up?
- Courtney & Joshua's hip hop: I love me some Joshua. I know he isn't the most popular on
_sytycd_, but his facial expressions made that dance. Courtney kept up pretty well, too. - Chelsie's solo: Let's face it, ballroom solos are rough. Heidi's were really good and even they weren't particularly interesting.
- Mark & Kherington's two step: was a hot mess of missed connections. They were completely not turning at the same time/rate. Also Kherington's costume was weird; the bra top with vest made her look more like a genie than a hot country mama. BUMMER! as I like them both.
- Gev's solo: He had a little miss in the very beginning, and totally recovered and the rest of his solo was awesome. In a way, it's even better because he had to recover. Gev might be my favorite. I adore him.
- Twitch & Comfort's smooth waltz: "Open Arms"? Who still takes this song seriously? (Her dress is terrible btw.) I mean, it was competent, but talk about no chemistry.
- Courtney's solo: She's so darn cute.
- Will & Katee's broadway: Okay that was great. I don't know what Nigel's on about with Will lacking personality, because I've seen plenty of it from him from the get go.
- Mark's solo: Hmm. I think the Mark fans will like it, and it's too bad his first couple dance kind of sucked, because I'm not sure how accessible that was.
- Chelsie & Gev's contemporary: Great costumes and an interesting song for a contemporary routine; I love Sonja's stuff. The two of them were beautiful, I thought.
- Comfort's solo: … and I still don't really care about her.
- Twitch's solo: He is sooo fucking precise, and such a contrast to Comfort, too.
- Courtney & Joshua's rhumba: I'm not a fan of this song, or Joshua's leotard, but I thought they were super.
- Katee's solo: Fantastic.
- Mark & Kherington's jazz: Weirdly slow, I thought. With that song the routine had to compete in my mind with both Napoleon Dynamite and the end of that crazy Center Stage ballet, and it, well, didn't. Nigel was totally right—no passion.
- Will's solo: I fucking love him.
- Twitch & Comfort's hip hop: I expected a lot from this and they totally delivered. I think Comfort is pretty good at doing certain things, I just kinda don't care about her too much. Twitch of course was super fantastic.
- Kherington's solo: Um. I'm sort of worried about her after that. It was like the opposite of Mark's, in that it had appeal but didn't show much technique.
- Will & Katee's pas de deux: Okay that was SICK. They had that one little bobble but whatever, that just proves they're human and learned excuse me a Desmond Richardson routine in three days. (Also that he had a male assistant? Awesome sauce.)
- Joshua's solo: He's so great, he makes me laugh out loud, seriously.
- Chelsie & Gev's jive: It was really fun, they totally pulled it off even if Chelsie was kind of leading a bit.
- Lil' C is my new favorite guest judge. He was very good at talking outside his specialty in a way that was still understandable for the audience. Go Lil' C!
- I voted for Chelsie, Gev, Joshua, Will, Katee and Courtney.

Date: 2008-07-17 01:58 pm (UTC)I'm so glad I'm not the only one who laughs with delight when Joshua dances. And OMG that contemporary routine. Wow.
Any reminder of Center Stage is good.
I loved the winning dress on PR. That was seriously creative. Go her! Though cup guy definitely deserved a nod for making the dress out of cups. He made a dress out of cups, that was awesome! Blayne's dress was so hideous. I was glad he didn't go home because better ballsy but hideous than that ridiculous raincoat. Both the bottom two grabbed something that was practically fabric and then did nothing with it.

Date: 2008-07-18 06:56 pm (UTC)Jerry sucked. Project Rungay said he just seemed to have a bad reaction to even being in that environment, and I can imagine that happened.

Date: 2008-07-17 03:14 pm (UTC)I hated Suede. He kept referring to himself in third person! "Suede's gonna do what Suede's gotta do.... Suede's here to win!" That is simply not acceptable.
