Now I know what it means to be in a fandom that's just motoring along, until suddenly one of its ships becomes the Slash Pairing of the Moment.

Pro: Non-Idolfandom friends will stop saying, "I'd read your fics but I don't read RPS!"

Con: Instead they will say, "I'd read your fics but I don't really care about Ryan and Simon!" Which, let's face it, I'm pretty used to.

Pro: No onslaught of crappy Rymonfic because Simon's chest hair scares the fangirls away.

On balance, a win for me!

I'm not entirely sure what you're talking about, but I ended up somehow at the idolslash comm today and saw all of the David C/David A slash and was very O_o about it. Something about wee David + porn...*flees*

Something about how little David can't say a sentence without going "oh gosh, shucks" makes me cringe at the thought of him getting it on, heh.

I'm not against Cook/Micheal Johns though, but thats the only other pairing I could read.

Rhysenn wrote David C/David A slash, but it was more about the total avalanche of the stuff and frankly I don't even get it. Cook/Jason, Cook/Michael, sure. And even the Danny Noriega/Archie stuff. But the explosion of Cookleta is yeah, a little odd.

No, not at all! People are writing piles of Cook/Archuleta fic ("cookleta") including a few people outside of idolslash who are big time slashers like Rhysenn. My ship? Not taking off in any way; that's what I meant by the "con".

Yeah, I have seen very little that isn't creepily OOC. There's Cook/Johns and also quite a bit of Cookstro which, you know, that's fine.

Hey there. Quick question. Sorry if it's stupid: I've read your mention of "Flaming Potato" several times. But when I click on the link you provide, the last update says something like April of 2007. Am I missing something? Is there something else I should be looking for? Thank you! And, just to add MY two cents, I LOVE Rymon. I wish people would write it more. I'd almost take bad stuff over totally nothing....

It's a friends-only comm—many RPS comms are. But I don't think you have to be approved to join. There isn't fic there, but lots and LOTS of squeeing and links to things like interviews and audio of Simon on Ryan's show and video clips of Rymon-ness on AI and all that sort of thing.

I can kinda totally see Cook/Jason, and possibly Cook/Johns. And Danny/Archie makes weirdly perfect sense. Possibly because of the youngness of their respective personalities? But...gah. For some reason, Cook/Archie just makes me go squick. So the fact that it's exploding in popularity sort of by default strikes me as odd. :P

Honestly? The only AI 'ship that makes total sense to me is Simon/Ryan. Partly because I swear they seem to actively encourage the subtext on the show; and partly because it comes back every year! All of the others are going to be replaced, because the people involved are replaced; but Simon and Ryan will be back again.

Oh! And I almost forgot: that icon you used is freaking adorable.

So they were on the Tonight Show and Jay asked Simon if he was going to get married and have kids ever, and Ryan very performatively moved all the way to the other end of the couch, and everyone laughed, and Simon said that he probably wouldn't have kids because it would upset Ryan, and then Ryan smiled and Simon pointed to him and said, "Look at that little face!" and Ryan scooted back over next to him and they cuddled as you see.

There's a comm for cookstro someplace I can root up if you're interested.

I don't really understand the explosion of Cookleta at all. I mean, Rhysenn writing it makes sense because she has a brother fetish anyway, but they really didn't strike me as slashy at all, and Archie isn't hot though Cook is, and I sort of get the Michael Johns being too old for a lot of slashers to deal with (omg 29!) but I don't get why Cookleta and not more Cookstro. But then, I don't really get why no one cares about Rymon either since they're like, the central ongoing relationship on the show, but so many people only care about the singers.

And I can't understand fangirl behavior anyway, which brings about much woe. WOE!

from a mostly nonslasher's pov: cook/johns: very, very hot. cookstro: can be hot, depending. ccokleta: no, except for that very well-done, ambiguous story where most of the focus was on small david's identity and crush issues. i just don't get it, i think we may be too old to get it.
