Deadwood, season 1
May. 12th, 2008 08:10 amWhen
ziggy1278 was here last spring, he had with him the first season of Deadwood, and he promptly went out and bought me a DVD player capable of playing AVI files so we could watch it together (and because he's awesome), and so we did—the first seven episodes anyway. Then he had to go, and for a while I couldn't bring myself to watch it for missing him. But yesterday, after having finished off season one of BSG, and needing to tidy up my room, I put it on.
Mostly what I have to say about it, which is not spoilery, is that Seth Bullock struggling to control his violent nature is really hot. But then, I've had a thing for Timothy Olyphant since he played the hot drug dealer in Go. I like, or care about, nearly all of the characters (except Calamity Jane, who irritates me) and I'm interested in what happens to them, and I'm sorry the show ended a year before the creator meant it to.
ziggy1278, I'm ready for season 2.
Speaking of which, it's upfront week, so we'll know for sure very soon who got picked up and who didn't. The Hollywood Reporter thinks HIMYM is a definite go and I tend to agree. NBC today, ABC tomorrow, CBS Wednesday, Fox Thursday, and I haven't been to the upfronts since WB+UPN=CW, which morning did they take? And I think NBC did some like, NBC Universal thing that included their cable nets (USA, Bravo, Sci-F-) probably because the cable nets have more news than NBC does.

Date: 2008-05-12 03:28 pm (UTC)Sold Under Sin, the last episode you just watched, is my favorite hour of television in the history of the world. And I don't even have a thing for westerns. Something about the character interplay and the camera work, and the way every quiet little thing they set up all season long comes to a head...
Also, I see that Sam is doing an acoustic Borders tour for her CD release (June 6 @ Columbus Circle) but, looking at the TBA tour dates between June and September, I'm hoping she does a REAL show in NYC so I am holding out.

Date: 2008-05-12 05:27 pm (UTC)With that said, I saw a movie this weekend starring him and a bunch of other folks, in which he was equally believable in his performance. The funny thing is, it is light years in the opposite direction of Bullock, as the character of Dennis is a young, gay man living in West Hollywood who's trying to change the path of his life. If you haven't seen it, I definitely recommend seeing The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy. It's a very sweet story about a close group of friends...think QAF without all the melodrama and fucking. (Which I also watched a lot of this weekend. Heh.)
So yeah, I'll shut up now.
