Strange Thing Mystifying

flaming_potato: Ryan kissed Simon on the temple last night on American Idol. Simon freaked out. Ryan told him to calm down, and Simon said he couldn't. If you look around, you probably can find it, but this icon made by

On to the elimination. It's clear at this point that the votes have much less to do with the actual performances and much more to do with the fanbases that solidified in the semis and the first two weeks of the show. Michael wasn't as adventuresome as D.Cook, and he wobbled a bit in the semifinals. Brooke was very strong in the semis even though she's been falling apart for the last few weeks—and also, I think she got a bump from the KLC voters. I don't think that Carly's voters will have a lot of impact, because a lot of them will probably go to D.Cook; only if Syesha picked them up would they mean much for the eliminations.
It's a very strange season in that I think many people made up their minds in the second week of the semis and have been voting the same way ever since. A singer who is amazing one night might be able to pick up some secondary voting, but that's about it. If they don't already have a really solid fanbase, as Carly didn't, as Chikezie didn't, as Ramiele didn't, as Hernandez didn't, as Amanda didn't, as Michael didn't, then they won't be able to guarantee not being kicked off. And if they have a crazy solid fanbase, like Brooke and for a long time KLC, they can weather a lot of fuck ups. This has always been somewhat true—see the Daughtry elimination in season 5—but never to this extent, or this early. I don't think Syesha has the fanbase, either. And I really don't think VFTW has anything to do with it; Brooke earned her fans fair and square, she just hasn't been living up to her potential lately.
I'm not sure if it will be Jason or Brooke in the top 3, but that the top two will be the two Davids feels undeniable at this point. Who will win may actually be incredibly close, and will probably depend on the coronation song just like it did last year, which favors small David as much as it favored Jordin. So likely, the next move for D.Cook fans is to go to americanidol.com and vote for good coronation songs, and not horrible Diane Warren-esque ones.

Date: 2008-04-24 05:29 pm (UTC)Ryan introduces the judges, giving Paula a kiss on the cheek as he passes. Then he gives Simon a peck on the top of the head, at which point Simon double-takes so hard he time-traveled all the way back to vaudeville. Ryan is actually the cooler of the two, basically telling Simon to relax and watch the Top 6 perform the ghastly "All I Ask Of You" with the ghastly Andrew Lloyd Webber.
