The regular Idol results post will go up in a little bit, but before I write that, I have to write this. It's this, that has kept me from being able to write up a post about the results show.

Idol slashers, you let me down, and you let me down HARD CORE. There were all these posts on my f-list right after the show last night, and not a single one of them even mentioned that Ryan kissed Simon. It is a thing! That happened! One should not have to be a shipper to acknowledge it as a Thing That Happened. Being shippy is assigning meaning to the kiss. Saying that the kiss happened, or noting it, is not just for shippers.

There are two parts to my anger here. The first is, now I feel like when I mention it in my post about the results show, everyone reading it is going to dismiss it as the ravings of a tinhat shipper. When I say everyone, I don't just mean like, almost every boy on my f-list who wonders "why does everyone have to be gay" but also all of you who might be watching Idol but not slashing it. But it isn't slashy to say: Ryan kissed Simon on the temple on Idol last night. I'm almost afraid to say it, though, because the way that it hasn't been mentioned makes me worry that maybe I did make it up.

The second is, you know, Cakers, I've been in your corner long time. I saw the brushes and the glances and I thought it was adorable, even though I'm not particularly fannish about either Chris or Blake. But I thought they were sweet together, and I liked the stories you guys wrote. When earlier this season some of you felt that the treatment of Colton and Danny meant that the AI PTB were anti-gay I tried to explain, nicely, why I disagreed, but I was sympathetic.

So I have to say, the complete lack of reciprocity is breathtaking. Are we not all slashers? Was I not asked to celebrate teh gaie wherever I found it? Can I not expect the same from you? I mean, for Pete's sake, a man kissed another man on American Idol last night and for all that any of you mentioned it, it might as well have not even happened. Is Simon so repulsive? Does teh gaie not count if it isn't happening between men you're attracted to? Because that's a kind of tunnel vision that I just can't even comprehend.

Despite shipping Rymon, I really do try my best in my non-Rymon posts to pay attention to the entire show. But I guess that just makes me an even lamer fangirl than I thought I was. flaming_potato, I love you guys long time; you make it all worth it, every single week, and I am clinging even closer to you now.

I think it might be that Simon and Ryan have been soo....Simon and Ryan for so long, that it's kind of there and there is no need to really comment on it("Simon and Ryan did something slashy"... "What else is new?") unless something big happens. As much as I loved the kiss, it wasn't as if he got him on the mouth with tongue.

Well, I think that a kiss is big, even without tongue, for live television. And I wasn't looking for an essay, more like: "haha, ryan kiss simon, wtf" before they moved on to fangirling Archuleta or whatever. I just feel like that isn't so much.

God, I freaked out a lot! Just...in IM because I haven't been into Idol this season, and aside from mentioning it in a picspam I posted at the same time, didn't go into a lot. It was just...a weird overwhelming thing...and their reactions made it all the more priceless. It was fantastic.

And you know, flaming_potato was something I started ages ago simply to snatch up that LJ name as it was one of the weirder analogies (and TRUST me, that's saying something) I've ever come up with. But I'm so glad it's became a fun place for at least a few people. :)

It was a totally weird overwhelming thing, and I don't think I've completely processed it even now. I'll probably have more to say about it later, or I'll just write fic.

But really this is about non-Rymon people who didn't even acknowledge the event. There was a lot of squee in the comm, which was awesome.

I had to rewatch it once with my parents just to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. I just love that Ryan's reaction is "Relax, it didn't mean anything." And Simon's response is, "I can't." Although, "It didn't mean anything," of course means that it meant something. ;)

I'm so glad I saw it mentioned in this post and one other one because I thought I must have imagined it. I looked away in that moment, but got the feeling that's what happened. But I hadn't actually seen it, so I thought I must have been projecting! I jumped on lj for validation! And found one post, thank goodness!

The best was Simon's reaction afterwards--that's what I thought was so hilarious. The steady gaze. So Ryan had to put his hand up. The "Calm down" "I can't!" Simon's face! It was the best face ever--surely you're going to make an icon of that smile he held for so long while Ryan just tried to go on!

I think that IS the moment I want, not the icon but the immediately after when ryan is all, whatever! and simon is like, did you just really do that on TV?

It's very indicative of this season as a whole, where Simon just completely has been unsuccessful in getting to Ryan at all. Like, back in top 12 when Simon started, and Ryan followed, and then Simon said "careful" and Ryan called his bluff. It's insane, but Ryan is SO confident and SO on top of his game. In previous years Simon had the upper hand much more, I think because Ryan was more worried about things being implied or getting out. And now, Ryan could give a shit, and that gives him a lot of power to, say, kiss Simon if he feels like it.

Tinhattishly, I feel that he was claiming his territory before Simon's X-Factor girl. Like, "he might be working with you, but he's mine, beatch."

I actually tuned in about ten minutes into the show last night because I got home late from dinner, so I didn't get to actually see the kiss happen in real-time. On top of that, I wasn't feeling well last night so even when I did see a video of it, I couldn't really muster much flail.

I was pretty shocked at the supreme lack of mention of the kiss in all the post-show posts, though.

Yeah, like, I'm not talking about people freaking out, but a simple "wow, they totally kissed, hilarious" would have been nice. But no one mentioned it except the rymon'ers, and it really harshed my squee, I have to admit. It made me feel very sad.

Of course, as usually happens online, the only people who will reply to this post are people who already care, and the people who don't care won't care, and I dunno. There may be this space where I'm so done with that whole crowd and that makes me sad, because I really thought that outside of shipping we could all enjoy idol together to a greater or lesser extent. But I guess when people say "goggles" they mean it.

I wonder if it's because a lot of people seem to have long ago realized that Ryan is most likely gay, so they weren't really shocked by the kiss? Kissing Simon is just one more thing to add to the list along with fawning over dresses, shoes, and manicures and flirting with men.

I suspect that if/when Ryan comes out, it'll probably get the same non-reaction. (FWIW, I think the past two seasons plus the radio show has been Ryan testing the coming out waters.)

As for me? I am still geeking out about the kiss 15 hours later. If I didn't have the video, I'd swear it was all a figment of my imagination.

I think he has been testing, and I do think that there will be a lot of ho-hum whenever it happens, though he does host a pop radio show so there could be a tiny bit of blowback there, with all the callers and stuff. E! certainly doesn't give a shit, and I really don't think Nigel cares either.

Ok, since I live in Iceland, I don't see the show until the next Monday night, and since the top 12 started, I've been trying my hardest to stay unspoiled so I haven't been able to participate in your idol posts much (Which sucks)

But this morning the (very) few Rymon-ers on my flist exploded with glee. It sucks that as a whole people didn't seem to think much of it. I mean, before I started shipping them, I would have been 'whoah' to see them kissing.

I'm going to run off right now and hunt down a vid of this. Squee! Is it ok if I snag the icon?

Someone really has to write a fic that happened directly after the show, like Simon barging into Ryan's dressing room to yell at him but they have really intense shower!sex instead. *ahem* ;)

I completely feel you on this. Other than the usual suspects, there wasn't much mentioning it on my FList either. The AIFans on my flist can be broken up into Saula and Rymon.

I've looooong ago stopped being a Saula fan. But its funny how they tend to ignore things that involve half their ship if it doesn't directly involve both of them.

Ryan could've straddled Simon, ripped his shirt open and full on made out with him on Live TV and all the Saula fans would act like it never happened.

The only non-Rymon mentions I saw of that was how Simon put his arm around (an EXTREMELY oblivious) Paula after. (head desk) That's lovely but if you kept watching the second the cameras cut away he took his arm down and he and Ryan started whispering to each other.

I'm actually shocked at the lack of Post-Kiss Fic from the fandom in general tbh.

A straight male friend of mine, on that, said: "Cuddling up to Paula Abdul will never make a man look straight." Which I thought was well said. My take on Paula wasn't that she was oblivious—though seriously, how often do you think that Randy has to make the 'time-out' symbol with his hands when the three of them go out?—but that she was playing along with Simon because she thought it was funny that he was being so ridiculous.

The post-kiss fic seems to be coming out now though! I think there were two this weekend.
