Ryan looked really hot tonight. I love him in a button-down, and he looks great in black. Calm night for Rymon, but that's okay.

  • Amanda, "Back in the USSR." Great song. Love the ironed hair and the vest and her ass looked sick in those . Ali wants to ride on the back of her motorcycle.
  • Kristy Lee, "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away." Wow, that sucked.
  • small David, "The Long and Winding Road." He sounded great, but I just sort of don't care.
  • Michael, "A Day in the Life." That was so the wrong song to choose, because it's hard for an audience to get into. M says, you need to be high to appreciate it and she's right. I think you have to be really careful about singing Beatles songs after Revolver, because they didn't even sing them live.
  • Brooke, "Here Comes the Sun." Aww, this is so her, and the yellow dress, she's really adorable, and without being twee, which is tough. It wasn't like, awesome? But it was loveable, which is probably more important.
  • D.Cook, "Day Tripper." Okay, that was a little Peter Frampton, so those of you who have memorized the Sgt. Pepper movie will have to tell me if it was done that way. Simon isn't wrong that it was kinda gimicky, and D.Cook needs to learn a few new tricks, but I liked it.
  • Carly, "Blackbird." I don't really get why he thought that was indulgent. I thought it was really pretty.
  • Jason, "Michelle." Right, so Chad, not so much with the getting out of the "Beatles songs you sing when you first learn to play the guitar" box. Awkward and charming, those are good words for it.
  • Syesha, "Yesterday." I found it really boring, and I like Syesha a lot.
  • Chikezie, "I've Just Seen a Face." The slow part didn't work as well as it might have—I could tell what he was trying to do, but he didn't quite get there. The changeup was cute, but it sort of didn't work. But unlike last week, the two halves of the song actually went together with the whole country thing.
  • Ramiele, "I Should Have Known Better." So, that was very Mickey Mouse Club, wasn't it? She was spunky, sure, but it wasn't that interesting.

[Poll #1156574]

After a great deal of consideration, I'm voting for Amanda, Brooke, Jason and Chikezie, but I really didn't love anyone tonight. What a low-energy show.

Did you catch Simon's appearance on Oprah today? They went to the show with him and of course paid a visit to Ryan in his dressing room. Then Simon paid the mortgage of a family with a 3-year old who has cancer, after making me sob over the story for a good ten minutes. And I mean SOB. BIG HONKING TEARS. OMG so much crying. blerb.

Simon really is a boo. I haven't seen it, but someone posted it on the Rymon comm, so I'll watch it shortly.

I have to say, having a ship comm is the Best. Thing. Ever. because people post like, all their tv appearances and radio clips, and edited down "this week in Rymon" and all I have to do to feel like I'm giving back is to write fic which I would do anyway. It is the awesomest thing!

Yeah, I was concerned about a second Beatles night, because there were a lot of good song choices last week, and I suspected they might've tapped out. There's a lot of Beatles songs, but not a lot of them are about showing off singing voices.

David Cook is growing on me. :-D

I hope Kristy goes, but I suspect Chikezie's awesome might have worn off with that performance and he'll lose the people who don't vote for him every time.

Two horrible weeks in a row from Kristy. Can someone please put us out of our misery?!

I'm really sad I didn't get to see last night. The Long and Winding Road--possibly my least favorite Beatle song ever.

I had thought Brooke could choose from a lot of them--Here Comes the Sun seems very obviously Brooke.

Unfortunately I can't tell you about David Cooke's performance, but I can tell you that "Day Tripper" was not included in the movie.:-D Now, if he was doing A Little Help From My Friends, that I could help you with. Because Peter Frampton played Billy Shears--who was sometimes thwarted by his villainous brother Dougie Shears.

ha! i remember very little of the frampton parts of the movie, truth be told. steve martin was great, though.

so i had to find the aerosmith number:

don't try to figure out the plot, clio. it's hilarious, but also slightly terrifying in what it tells you about my early imprinting. also, i think ryan should buy simon that neon sign at the beginning.

LOL! The Aerosmith number! Awesome.

In case you're wondering, Clio, that's Strawberry Fields tied to that big dollar sign!

I liked David and Sayesha. Carly was alright. Normally I love Brooke, but Joe at TWoP nailed it with "OD'ed on Sunshine."

Rymon was low key, but there were some good moments. Simon winking twice in about five minutes, Ryan's cute little giggle after Kristy made that "Blow you out of your socks" comment. Talk about Fruedian slips! And I loved the intro shot where Ryan was leaning against the judges table backwards and next to Simon.

Beatles 2 wks in a row was such, such a suck idea. I hope someone gets fired over that.

we agree on almost everything, except that i liked syesha quite a lot. cracks me up that carly got panned the first week i actually liked her. i wish chikezie had just left off the slow part, because the bluegrass stomp was awesome.

as we discussed, small david couldn't possibly get those lyrics and so for me the raves were excessive, but compared to kristy he sounded 100% convincing, and if i had to sum up why i hate her, it's all displayed in the way she so clearly could not even process the idea of what it would be like, emotionally, to fear being a reject or pariah in any way.

and a big yes on the post-revolver point. things like ADITL were all about the finished product.
