oh Paula!

So the biggest thing, I feel, about the AI results show was Paula's video. She looked awesome, and it's fantastic to see her dancing again. I'm not sure what that little end frame with the four of them was about, though.

I'd forgotten how much I love the crappy ridiculous medleys, and they're even better when there's 24 people wandering around the stage; it's like the opening number of a Miss America pageant. That said, ugh, "Spanish Harlem" remains an insipid little song, doesn't it?

Now for the auf'd:

Garrett: Wow, that was a little harsh, let's just pull you out and get you out of here. I mean, I didn't care about him at all, but yeah, the semis are kind of abrupt.

Amy: Well, everyone knew that would happen. I don't have a lot to say about her either.

Joanne: I'm sad, but she didn't perform well, and as she said herself during Hollywood week, America expects a curvy black girl to be, well, LaKisha, and she wasn't. If she'd been awesome she could have overcome that, but she wasn't.

Colton: I know this is controversial, and there are plenty that were worse than him—Jason Y, Luke, Chikeze, even Danny—but I don't think he ever would have made it to the finals. honestys_easy had a great analysis of the splitting of the "tiny gay boy" vote that Garrett and Colton lost, and Danny won, and that David A took votes away from, and I totally agree. I thought Simon was harsh because Colton seems made for Broadway, and I was glad to hear him say on Ryan's radio show that he's headed this way next. He has "replacement cast of Spring Awakening" written all over him.

LOL! Replacement cast of Spring Awakening--yes! I think my favorite line on I think it was Garret was on TWOP--"I thought the little girl from Atonement grew up to be Vanessa Redgrave but apparently she got a Peter Frampton wig and is singing? That's no way to atone, little girl!"

I would have been fine with Colton staying.

Btw, did you get my reply to your text on Thursday? I keep having this fear I did something wrong and it didn't send because I was checking to make sure I had all the names right!

I also seriously have to catch up on TWOP.

I would have been fine with Colton staying, but I don't think he would have made top 12, so in a way it doesn't matter. And Simon's constant grouchiness about it would have gotten really old.

The boys and Amy were exactly who I would've picked to go. I was a little bummed about Joanne, but we barely knew her and she didn't perform well, so that's the breaks. The background sobbing is kind of silly at this stage of the competition.

I wasn't surprised by any of the four who went - I wasn't expecting any of them to make the top 12. I am kinda surprised Luke and Jason Y didn't go, though, I thought they were both very, very ordinary.

Jason Y, I was more surprised that he got that many people to vote for him, because I'm really not sure who he appealed to. Luke is cute, so he got that vote for "older hot guy." I like him, even though his performance wasn't that great. I liked the way he dressed down and the way he approached the mike; it was just too understated for this stage of Idol. He can pull that shit later, when we know who he is.
