Thursday night [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose and I went to see Persepolis, and all I can really say is, see it as soon as humanly possible because it is awesome, and gorgeous, and touching, and real.

In the lobby of the Angelica movie theater they were playing Nights in White Satin, a song I really cannot stand, and I explained to Ali "that's Nights with an N, not a K" and as [livejournal.com profile] sistermagpie said last night at dinner, "All that about sheets?" Meg, as I promised, Robyn Hitchcock on Syd Barrett.

I came home to lovely, lovely Friday night TV: Best Week Ever and The Soup. BWE gave their award to Ricky from PR and then proceeded to make fun of his hats and his crying, though Sherrard Smith pointed out that everyone cries these days: "Hillary cried because some Negro is trying to take her job."

Joel, last night on The Soup, his lovely final words:
Heath Ledger passed away this week and in all the years we've been doing this show we've never had cause to mention him. So stop digging through the dirt, weasles. A talented, decent guy is gone and our thoughts go out to those who knew him.
The nice thing is that E!News hasn't been dirt digging; they've been going the heartstrings route, lots of "the face of a little girl who will never know her father" kind of stuff, and Ryan and Giuliana being glum. What a turn around for a channel that Clooney was boycotting not too many years ago.

I absolutely loved Joel for saying that last night.

Well, that and mentioning wearing Ryan's underwear, lol.

And the gay lollypop. But yeah, Joel and his continuing Ryan thing is awesome.

If I didn't already love Joel McHale, when I saw that it would've done it.

When Heath Ledger's picture popped up, I'll admit, my heart sank a little because I just think in light of tragedy, one should avoid anything but respect. So when he had that little speech of sorts, I just wanted to squeeze him.

Thumbs up, Soup.

Joel really only wants to make fun of the ridiculous, not the pathetic. Hence that whole "special comment" with Keith about how Britney et al. needed to go back to doing silly things that it was fun to make jokes about.

But yeah, he's pretty awesome.

Yeah, that was classy. I also like that the Soup has backed off of Celebrity Rehab. I saw that show for the first time the other night and-- dag!-- that is some sad, sad stuff.

Of course, I had nothing but love for the bit about Joel stealing Ryan's underwear to wear so that he can feel pretty. Hee-hee.

Yeah, when things get pathetic they tend to back off because not so much with the funny. Joel's ongoing thing about Ryan is awesome of course.

What keeps me watching celebrity rehab isn't so much the train wreck as Dr Drew; I love watching people who are really good at their job.

I've never heard of The Soup, sadly, but bless Joel for what he said. Good on him.

The Soup runs clips from other shows where people are behaving ridiculously and then makes jokes about them, so most of the show is making fun of people, usually famous people but also annoying people on reality shows, that sort of thing. So that's what he means when he says "we've never had cause to mention him", that he's never been in some stupid scandal, never behaved ridiculously in public, etc.

He talks about Ryan Seacrest a lot because they're on the same network, the Entertainment Channel or E!; Ryan is the host of E!News, the nightly entertainment news show.

LOL! He could have been doing like Emerson Lake and Palmer! Classic!

I will be so interested to hear what you think of Rock and Roll.
