Just got back from a great vacation in California (hence the 3am posts—it was midnight to me after all) and I have a lot of work to do before classes start up again. Unfortunately my computer has decided to manage power badly, so it will have to go into the shop tomorrow and hopefully it will be fixed by the weekend. That means that for the next few days my evenings will be spent not online, but going through papers and watching BSG. I'll get to the reason for that in a minute.

For those of you that are new to this journal and are fellow Idol'ers: I hate the auditions. Hate them. So if you guys want to give me a key to the Rymony moments, I'd be grateful, but I'll probably just scan through both shows at some point this week. I'll start the recaps at the semis (thought I might talk about Hollywood week) and the polls for the finals. Usually I would just hang on to the eps until we get the semifinalists, but I can't keep things on the tivo right now.

And that's because … I'm moving! I'm moving at the end of the month into a really huge 2-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn, that I'll be sharing with a friend of a friend, but even with that it's a lot more space than I'm used to. It's all very exciting, and there are all these things that are great about it, and between that and the computer being on the fritz and my pals [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose and [livejournal.com profile] emsariel moving I won't be around much until I'm comfortably ensconced in the new flat the first week of February. But I'll be out here reading, even if I'm not writing, and answering email even if I'm not around for chatting. It's an eventful month!

Wow, congrats on the new apartment! That's very exciting news, and how awesome will a two bedroom be? SO VERY AWESOME!

Yeah, the Idol auditions. I mean, I watched them? But they were quickly boring.

(So much for going to bed early... you know what they say about the best-laid plans...)

Oh, you know, it's a share. But even with that, it's so much bigger than this place. The bedroom is almost as big as my apartment now.

Ryan is still gay - he looked uneasy about letting one of the hopefuls in to see Simon.

Obviously, Ryan had just given Simon spectacular blow jobs prior to both audition days. He was in far too good of a mood.

They have a love that knows no season. Seriously. I can barely deal with their post-Africa "why try to hide it" vibe. It's insane. I'm willing to be tinhattish about them in a way that I try to refrain from with almost anyone else.

Besides, they're a renewable resource!

Wow, you're moving! That's amazing! I didn't think anything was going to drag you away from that rent control of yours. What did it in the end, the space? I can completely understand that, but your place is so beautiful!

Well, the building has really gone downhill because they don't want to pay to improve it because none of us pay much rent, so I got this roach problem that would not go away, and there are holes in the floor that they keep not fixing and I'm just not persistent enough nor do I have the energy to scream at them about it or any of the other things they're lazy about fixing. And many of my friends are in Brooklyn so there won't be hour long train trips out there anymore, but I'll be just one stop into Brooklyn from Manhattan, and actually closer to more trains than I am here. Also, they're buying me out of my lease, and that plus the decrease in rent from moving into a shared but very large two bedroom just makes sense right now from a financial standpoint. The buyout is enough for me to just pay off my credit cards, completely, and the monthly savings will be substantial. I also have a tendency to isolation that can be unhealthy so living with someone (with a large bedroom for escape needs) feels like a good idea right now.

I will miss the blue place and I know you will, too, but I still think that this is going to be such a relief for you, such a positive change. And two bedrooms WOW! I am so excited for you!

Well, it's a share, I just edited the post, I didn't think anyone would think I could afford two bedrooms on my own in New York as a grad student so I wasn't even thinking about how weird our real estate is compared to any place else. But yeah, I think it will be a really positive change!

Congratulations on the apartment! Welcome to the cool borough :D

And ITA about the AI auditions. CAN'T STAND THEM. Usually I'll wait until Fox is done laughing at the poor people and start watching at Hollywood week. (Though I'm also terrible with suspense so sometimes I'll even wait until the actual voting performances begin.)

Of course, I'm usually watching for the Rymon, and there's none of it Hollywood week because Ryan isn't actually there, and during the auditions there is such little wheat for all the chaff. But I'll watch tonight and last night's sometime tomorrow probably. I mean, love the Cake, but Rymon is a renewable resource.

You will have to show me your cool places in Brooklyn! And we would be able to meet up more often. But I'll see you later this week when Allyson is here, I hope!

Comparing Idol fandom to world energy sources? BEST. ANALOGY. EVER. Right now the Cake fandom's running around like we're all Americans in Hummers and our fuel is drying up. Meanwhile Rymonites are putt-puttering around in their Priuses and Smart Cars and waiting around for more of their inevitable Rymon fuel to come pouring in. :D

I'm so excited about this weekend!

Yeah, AI was not very interesting last night, and the editorial hand was heavy and harsh. *shrugs* I don't know how much of the auditions I'll watch, either.

Good luck with the move! And when the dust settles and you have room to breathe, I'd love to hear your thoughts on BSG.

We watched the Philadelphia auditions last night. There were a few good singers but a lot of the people had really bad voices (to put it kindly). I did think Randy and Paula seemed rather unprofessional when they laughed (behind their hands) at one male contestant. Granted, he possibly has the worst voice in the history of earth, and it was probably hard to restrain themselves (heaven knows I was laughing at home, but it was more from the terror of listening).

Good luck with moving!

Woohoo for the new move! I hope the new place is awesome *g* And I love watching the auditions of AI - luckily for us, it starts here tomorrow night. Good luck with the move, lovely girl, and hope it all works out with a new roommate.
