I was in a horrible mood today, and therefore skipped my class and came home to hide for a little while, and decided to watch a great deal of this Avatar DVD that [livejournal.com profile] ali_wildgoose loaned me. I liked it, and I'm interested in finding out how it ends, mostly because the world is interesting—as you might expect, when they started fighting I started, well, checking my flist. So the questions shouldn't be like, ways in which I didn't like it.
  1. Does Sokka ever really get any respect? (Okay, other than the whole princess thing.) Does he stop getting the short end of the stick eventually? Does anyone ever actually listen to the kid? Because he seems pretty clever to me, with mad skilz, so just because he isn't a water bender …
  2. That bounty hunter June is [livejournal.com profile] bhanesidhe, am I right?
  3. So, when those earth benders were on the metal ship and they couldn't do much until they had the coal, and Katara says she needs water—but the fire benders make their own fire, right? So does that make them sort of more powerful or something? Is there a way to separate them from the fire? (Same for air.)
  4. Does Aang every stop being kind of careless? is this like, just because he's 12 and under a lot of pressure? Because I get it? But it's kind of wearing on me.
  5. So, it's Zuko/Katara that I'm not supposed to be shipping? I'm sure that more will happen later, but I kind of get it. Not enough to ship it, but I get it.
  6. "The Deserter" was so Heart of Darkness. And woah, steam punk. Are there a lot of references like that?
  7. Are all the fire nation types supposed to be hot heads har har? Is there a sort of essentialism to this? Or is it just circumstantial?
  8. Enough with the massive, massive, massive sulk, Zuko. Seriously. Does anyone ever cheer this kid up?
  9. How does the fire nation have all these people that they can have overwhelming numbers all the time?
By the way, the sound is pretty excellent on this show.

Ugh, I'm sorry you had a lousy mood day! I hope all the animated ridiculousness helped at least a little ^_^;

AS FOR YOUR COMEMNTS

1) Muahaha. (Also, I AM SO NOT SURPRISED THAT YOU LIKE SOKKA <3)

2) SHIT YES.

3) It definitely gives them a strategic advantage, yeah. One of the many reasons why they've been able to create a gigantic imperialist empire.

4) He gets a bit of a reality check, yeah. Many, actually. One could say that season two is one big reality check for pretty much everyone involved, actually.

5) HAHA! You get it? TELL ME MORE. (It was the bit where he tied her to a tree that really got them going full force.)

6) The Fire Nation is a very steam punk kinda place. MORE ON THAT LATER.

7) Firebending lends itself to hotheaded types because it draws on emotional energy to such a degree -- your anger literally feeds the flames, har har. But there's more variety in Fire Nation folk, benders and non-benders alike, later on.

8) HAHA. ER. KINDA.

9) I could be wrong, but I think it's less about the overwhelming numbers and more about the navy of steam-powered ships, the giagantic war machines, and the ability to set shit on fire with their fingertips. *laughs* Oh man, a tiny industrialized island nation with a navy that conquers half the world....THIS SOUNDS ODDLY FAMILIAR...

So are you done with the first season...?! O_O

1) Why are you not surprised?

5) Tied to a tree, he has her symbolic (betrothal) necklace for a while, and then they FIGHT HARD CORE. Also the fire v water thing. I mean, I get that the show wants me to go to Kataang and I can see that, though I'd love for them to have conversations that aren't about the matter at hand. I was saying to someone the other day that they needed to add to their chapter the always crucial Random Conversation About Nothing.

"Does Sokka ever really get any respect? "

Yes he does. But not from his sister.
